Draining The Fuel Tank Using Fuel Transfer Unit

WARNING: Highly inflammable or explosive materials 
  • Danger of fire or explosion 
    • → Avoid contact with hot parts or sources of ignition.
    • → Use suction to remove ignitable vapours.
    • → Attach warning sign in a clearly visible position.
    • → Contain leaked media using non-flammable absorbent material and put it in a container designed for this purpose for disposal in accordance with local requirements.
    • → Secure collection containers/vessels to prevent them from tipping over.
WARNING: Caustic fluids 
  • Danger of chemical burns 
    • → Wear personal protective gear.
    • → Ensure that there is good ventilation.
    • → Avoid contact with caustic fluid.
    • → If you do come into contact, wash off immediately with plenty of warm water and contact a doctor if necessary.

NOTIFICATION 

Fuel can leak out when flange cover is removed when fuel tank is full 

Information 

Watch out for emerging fuel when disconnecting fuel lines. Place a clean cloth on the connection point, then loosen the connection.

  1. Observe safety instructions when working on the fuel system.
  2. Place a warning sign in a clearly visible position in the work area or on the vehicle.

  3. Place protective covers on the vehicle.
  4. Prepare fuel transfer unit for draining fuel.
    1. 4.1 Connect the fuel hose - - to the changeover tank.
    2. 4.2 Connect the venting device (transparent hose) - -.
    3. 4.3 Attach the pneumatic stop switch - - to the tank and secure with two knurled nuts.
    4. 4.4 Then connect the suction hose to the connection - -.

  5. Connect the earth cable.

    The earth cable must be connected to the ground point on the vehicle while working! 

  6. Disconnect the fuel level sensor.

  7. Extract fuel using > VAS 5190A - Fuel extractor  or > VAS 5190A - Fuel extractor  .
    1. 7.1 Insert suction hose into the fuel tank.
    2. 7.2 Drain the fuel.
      1. 7.2.1 Set changeover lever to "Extract fuel/Pump out vehicle".
      2. 7.2.2 Switch on the pump and extract the required amount of fuel.
