Pre-treat corroded components with anti-rust agent or heat.

Unscrew screw -1 - on heat shield -2 - for the turbocharger oil tank -3 -.

Unscrew nuts -1 - and studs -2 - on the turbocharger/exhaust manifold flange -3 -.

Release vacuum line -1 - for brake booster at the underbody and pull it off.
1. 3.1 Open both connection points -Arrow -.
2. 3.2 Check O-rings and replace them if necessary.

Disconnect intake pipe -1 - on the turbocharger -2 -.
1. 4.1 Unscrew 2 screws -3 -.
2. 4.2 Replace O-ring on the intake pipe.

Disconnect coolant lines -1 - on the turbocharger -2 -.
1. 5.1 Unscrew screw -3 -.
2. 5.2 Disconnect coolant lines -1 -.
3. 5.3 Catch escaping coolant.
4. 5.4 Replace all O-rings on the coolant lines.
5. 5.5 Close off openings and connections using suitable stoppers.

Loosen connecting clip securing -2 - catalytic converter -3 - to turbocharger -4 -.
1. 6.1 Loosen screw -1 - and open connecting clip -2 -.

Disconnect vacuum hose -1 - from the vacuum modulator -2 -.

Vehicle interior
Unscrew screws -1 - securing heat shield -3 - to holder -2 -.

Disconnect turbocharger coolant line -1 - at the coolant distributor housing -2 -.
1. 9.1 Unscrew screw -3 -.

Remove turbocharger coolant line -1 -.
1. 10.1 Unscrew screw -2 - and disconnect coolant line -1 - from the engine.
2. 10.2 Catch escaping coolant.
3. 10.3 Close off openings and connections using suitable stoppers.

Disconnect oil pipe -1 - at the turbocharger.
1. 11.1 Unscrew screw -2 - using > VAS 6959 - Torx screwdriver insert T30 .
2. 11.2 Carefully disconnect oil pipe -1 - from the turbocharger.
3. 11.3 Collect accumulated engine oil.
4. 11.4 Close off openings and connections using suitable stoppers.

On vehicles with Venturi turbocharger connection:
Disconnect tank vent line -1 - at the -2 - turbocharger.
1. 12.1 Undo screw -3 - and pull tank vent valve -1 - off the turbocharger -2 -.
2. 12.2 Close off openings and connections using suitable stoppers.

Remove turbocharger by pulling it downwards.
1. 13.1 Replace gasket on the exhaust manifold flange.
2. 13.2 Replace gasket on the catalytic converter flange.
