Checking The Cooling System For Leaks

WARNING: Hot fluid 
  • Danger of scalding 
    • → Let the fluid cool down.
    • → Wear personal protective gear.
  1. Remove engine compartment lid.

    > 557819 REMOVING AND INSTALLING ENGINE COMPARTMENT LID .

  2. Check the cooling system for leaks.
    1. 2.1 Unscrew cap on the coolant reservoir.
    2. 2.2 > 9696/2 - Filling adapter  must be screwed securely onto the coolant reservoir.
    3. 2.3 > V.A.G 1274B - Tester for Cooling System  must be connected to the coolant reservoir.
    4. 2.4 Create a test pressure of 1.8 bar (absolute) using a pump.
    5. 2.5 Visually check all hose and line connections for leaks.

    Cooling system tester

    1. > V.A.G 1274B - Tester for Cooling System 
    2. Adapter with hose extension
    3. > 9696/2 - Filling adapter 
  3. Release pressure on the tester  .
  4. Filling adapter  must now be screwed off.
  5. Carry out the required repair work to seal any leaks you find.
  6. Screw cap securely onto the reservoir.
