Installing Flywheel

WARNING: Caustic fluids 
  • Danger of chemical burns 
    • → Wear personal protective gear.
    • → Ensure that there is good ventilation.
    • → Avoid contact with caustic fluid.
    • → If you do come into contact, wash off immediately with plenty of warm water and contact a doctor if necessary.
  1. Remove protective wax on new parts with acetone or solvent naphtha.
  2. Clean the friction surface of the flywheel using a clean, lint-free cloth soaked in acetone or solvent naphtha.
  3. Position the flywheel on the crankshaft dowel pin and press it onto the crankshaft flange.
  4. Fit ten new  fastening screws and tighten evenly in diagonally opposite sequence.
  5. >9538/1 - Toothed segment-1-  must be fitted on the engine flange as a counter-hold tool.

    Information 

    A commercially available socket, for example, is ideal as a spacer.

    1. 5.1 > 9538/1 - Toothed segment-1-  must be fitted on the engine flange using original flange screw -3-  , > 9538/2 - holder-2-  and spacer -4-  .

  6. Tighten fastening screws.
    1. 6.1 Set tightening torque -1-  and torque angle -2-  on the > VAS 6942 - Torque/torque angle wrench, 20-400 Nm (15-296 ftlb.)  . > Initial tightening 25 Nm (19 ftlb.)  > Final tightening torque angle 120° 
    2. 6.2 Tighten fastening screws evenly and in diagonally opposite sequence according to tightening specifications.

    Setting special tool

  7. Remove counter-hold tool.
