Checking Engine Oil Pressure

Information 

CAUTION: Hot components 
  • Risk of burns 
    • → Let hot components cool down.
    • → Wear personal protective gear.
  1. Unscrew threaded plug (M12 x 1.5) -1-  on the cylinder head.
    1. 1.1 Replace sealing ring.

  2. Screw > T90007 - adapter  or the relevant adapter -2-  from the > V.A.G 1342 - oil pressure tester  tool set into the threaded bore.
    1. 2.1 Seal it using the old sealing ring for the threaded plug.

  3. Close off bore on pressure gauge VAG 1342 (connection bore for checking oil pressure sensor).
  4. Secure pressure gauge connecting line -3-  to the adapter -2-  .

  5. Move charge-air cooler into installation position and connect it.
  6. Connect a battery charger.
  7. Connect the PIWIS Tester  to the vehicle and select oil temperature in the actual values.

    Information 

    • An engine oil temperature of 90 - 100° Celsius is required in order to check the oil pressure correctly. 
    • Use the following tool for checking the engine oil pressure manually: 
    • > V.A.G 1342 - Oil Pressure Tester 
  8. Start the engine and let it heat up until the engine oil temperature is at least 90° Celsius.
    1. 8.1 Read off the oil temperature on the Tester.
  9. Rev to the specified test speed and read off the oil pressure on the pressure gauge.

    2. Connecting line
  10. Move charge-air cooler into service position.
  11. Remove test tools.
    1. 11.1 Wrap a clean cloth around the test connection on the cylinder head to absorb drops of oil. 
    WARNING: Flammable materials 
    • Risk of fire 
      • → When the work is complete, check that all aids and foreign objects (e.g. cloths, tools) are removed from the engine compartment.
  12. Make sure there are no tools, foreign objects or aids in the engine compartment! 
  13. Fit threaded plug (M12 x 1.5) with a new sealing ring.

    > Tightening torque 23 Nm (17 ftlb.) 

  14. Remove oil residue.
