Checking Engine Oil Pressure
WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
Information
- Carry out the oil pressure test on cylinder bank 1-3 because it is easier to reach.
CAUTION:
Hot components
- Risk of burns
- → Let hot components cool down.
- → Wear personal protective gear.
- Unscrew threaded plug (M12 x 1.5) -1-
on the cylinder head.
- 1.1 Replace sealing ring.
Stopper on pressure oil connection on cylinder head
- Screw > T90007 - adapter
or the relevant adapter -2-
from the > V.A.G 1342 - oil pressure tester
tool set into the threaded bore.
- 2.1 Seal it using the old sealing ring for the threaded plug.
Adapter for pressure gauge connecting line (shown as an example)
- Close off bore on pressure gauge VAG 1342 (connection bore for checking oil pressure sensor).
- Secure pressure gauge connecting line -3-
to the adapter -2-
.
Pressure gauge connecting line (shown as an example)
- Move charge-air cooler into installation position and connect it.
- Connect a battery charger.
- Connect the PIWIS Tester
to the vehicle and select oil temperature in the actual values.
Information
- An engine oil temperature of 90 - 100° Celsius is required in order to check the oil pressure correctly.
- Use the following tool for checking the engine oil pressure manually:
- > V.A.G 1342 - Oil Pressure Tester
- Start the engine and let it heat up until the engine oil temperature is at least 90° Celsius.
- 8.1 Read off the oil temperature on the Tester.
- Rev to the specified test speed and read off the oil pressure on the pressure gauge.
Engine speed [rpm] Oil pressure p min. [bar] Oil temperature t min. in °C Idle speed 1.35 - 1.5 90 - 100 3, 000 2.35 ± 0.2 90 - 100 Oil pressure tester gauge
- Pressure gauge from VAG 1342
- Connecting line
- Move charge-air cooler into service position.
- Remove test tools.
- 11.1 Wrap a clean cloth around the test connection on the cylinder head to absorb drops of oil.
WARNING: Flammable materials- Risk of fire
- → When the work is complete, check that all aids and foreign objects (e.g. cloths, tools) are removed from the engine compartment.
- Make sure there are no tools, foreign objects or aids in the engine compartment!
- Fit threaded plug (M12 x 1.5) with a new sealing ring.
> Tightening torque 23 Nm (17 ftlb.)
- Remove oil residue.
