Replacing (Central) Headlight Control Unit

NOTIFICATION 

Voltage drop 

• Risk of irreparable damage to control unit 
• Risk of damage to control unit 
• Fault entries in the control unit 
• Coding in the control unit is aborted 
• Malfunctions in control unit, even during programming 
  • Prior to disconnecting the control unit, switch off ignition and remove ignition key.
  • Ensure that the power supply is not interrupted during programming.
  • Connect a battery charger with a current rating of at least 90 A to the vehicle battery.

Information 

The > 9900 - PIWIS Tester 3  instructions take precedence since the description may be different with later Tester releases.

The procedure described here has been structured in general terms. Different text or additional information may appear in > 9900 - PIWIS Tester 3. 

1. Connect the Tester to the vehicle and switch on the ignition.
2. Start the diagnostic application and select the vehicle type.
3. Select the Headlight control unit (central)  in the overview. 
4. Maintenance/repairs  must now be selected.
5. Select Control unit replacement  and press F12 to continue.
6. Read data  must be selected. Press F12, then press F8 to start.
7. Check the vehicle identification number and press F12 to continue.
8. Switch off the ignition and replace the control unit

   > 941619 REMOVING AND INSTALLING (CENTRAL) HEADLIGHT CONTROL UNIT .

9. Select Maintenance/repairs,  then Write data  in the overview. Press F12 to continue and then press F8 to start.
10. Once the procedure is completed, press F12 to continue and then press F11 to return to the overview.
11. Select Headlight control unit (central), Headlight start-up  and press F12 to start.
12. Check Tester preconditions, press F12 and then press F8 to start.
13. Press F8 to execute.
14. Carry out all programming steps by pressing F8 and switch the ignition on and off  as instructed on the Tester.
15. Once coding is completed successfully, the programming steps are carried out.
16. When Headlight start-up  is complete, select Coding/adaptation  and perform Automatic coding.  Then continue by pressing F12
17. Read out the fault memory and if faults are present, erase the fault memory.
18. Check that the headlights are working.
19. Disconnected the Tester from the vehicle and switch off the ignition.
