Thermal Assessment

Thermal assessment involves using the temperature gauge (infrared) VAS 6886 on the battery housing (at the side and top).

Information

If the temperature increases during the test, wait for the reaction before continuing to monitor the result for at least 5 days. This must be repeated for as long as required until no more reactions are detected.

Measurement: 1

Date: __________________ Time: ____________

Ambient temperature: _______________ °C (°F)

Measurement result at side measuring point: ____________ °C (°F)

Measurement result at top measuring point: ____________ °C (°F)

Measurement: 2 - 5 (damaged or defective lithium-ion battery)

Date:

Time:

Ambient temperature: ______ °C (°F) ______ °C (°F) ______ °C (°F) ______ °C/(°F)
Measurement result, sides: ______ °C (°F) ______ °C (°F) ______ °C (°F) ______ °C (°F)
Measurement result, top: ______ °C (°F) ______ °C (°F) ______ °C (°F) ______ °C (°F)

If the temperature at one of the measuring points is > 120 °C (248 °F)

Battery status: "Danger"

Alert the fire brigade and take steps to deal with the danger from fire/gas leaks.

If the temperature at one of the measuring points is > 70 °C (158 °F) and < 120 °C (248 °F)

Battery status: "Warning"

Park the vehicle/store the 12 volt lithium-ion battery in the quarantine location and attach warning signs in accordance with requirements (see "Handling lithium-ion batteries"). Contact Technical Support; it may be possible to correct the fault.

Check vehicle/12 volt lithium-ion battery at regular intervals, at least once a day.
