→ Only appropriately trained and authorised persons are permitted to work on high-voltage vehicles and components.
→ Required qualification: High voltage technician or high voltage expert.
→ Observe national requirements and legislation for this work.
→ Always use insulated tools, e.g. > VAS 6883 - Insulated Tool Set when working on these components.
→ Observe general warning notes for working on the high-voltage system.

E-box circuit diagram (simplified diagram)
Preliminary work for measurement 12
(Check: High-voltage line from high-voltage distributor to E-box, E-box and traction line from E-box to rear power electronics)
- Dismantle and remove rear loadspace floor.
- Lift up body cover -1-
to allow access to the high-voltage line for the electric motor at the rear using a plastic wedge and remove it.
Removing body cover
- Unscrew fastening screws -1-
for the connection for the rear power electronics traction line and disconnect it.
Wear gloves with cut protection when loosening and detaching the traction line.
Rear power electronics traction line
- Connect the high-voltage test adapter > VAS 6558A/40 - HV measuring adapter
to high-voltage line (from high-voltage distributor to E-box). Leave the second connection open.
Measurement 12
- Perform measurement 12.
- 5.1 Setpoint value ≥ 1.1 MOhm
- Evaluate measured result
- 6.1 If the measured value is within the tolerance range, continue with measurement 12.2 .
- 6.2 If the measured value is outside of the tolerance range, continue with measurement 12.1 .
Preliminary work for measurement 12.1
(Check: High-voltage line from high-voltage distributor to E-box)
- Remove front axle support, rear section.
- Disconnect the high-voltage line from the high-voltage distributor to the high-voltage battery on the high-voltage battery. Release - A-
, open -B-
and unplug. -C-
Disconnecting the high-voltage line at the high-voltage battery
- Connect the high-voltage test adapter > VAS 6558A/40 - HV measuring adapter
to high-voltage line (from high-voltage distributor to E-box). Leave the second connection open.
Measurement 12.1
- Perform measurement 12.1.
- 10.1 Setpoint value ≥ 1 GOhm
- Evaluate measured result
- 11.1 If the measured value of measurement 12.1 is within the tolerance range and the specified measured value for measurement 12 on the negative line is outside the tolerance range, continue with measurement 12.2 .
- 11.2 If the measured value of measurement 12.1 is within
the tolerance range and the measured value of measurement 12 on the positive
line is outside
the tolerance range, replace E-box.
After replacing the E-box, repeat measurement 12.
- 11.3 If the measured value is outside of the tolerance range, replace high-voltage line (from high-voltage distributor to E-box).
After replacing the high-voltage line, repeat measurement 12.
Preliminary work for measurement 12.2
(Check: e-box and traction line from E-box to rear power electronics)
- Connect high-voltage test adapter > VAS 6558A/38 - HV test adapter
to the traction line (from E-box to rear power electronics).
Measurement 12.2
- Perform measurement 12.2.
- 13.1 Setpoint value ≥ 1.1 MOhm
- Evaluate measured result
- 14.1 If the measured value is within the tolerance range, continue with measurement 13 .
- 14.2 If the measured value is outside of the tolerance range, continue with measurement 12.3 .
Preliminary work for measurement 12.3
(Check: Traction line from E-box to rear power electronics)
- Remove high-voltage battery.
> 270819 REMOVING AND INSTALLING HIGH-VOLTAGE BATTERY - on "Removing"
- Loosen and disconnect traction line (E-box - rear power electronics) at the E-box.
Traction line (E-box to rear power electronics)
- Connect high-voltage test adapter > VAS 6558A/38 - HV test adapter
to the traction line (from E-box to rear power electronics).
Measurement 12.3
- Perform measurement 12.3.
- 18.1 Setpoint value ≥ 1 GOhm
- Evaluate measured result
- 19.1 If the measured value is within
the tolerance range, replace E-box.
After replacing the e-box, repeat measurement 12 and measurement 12.2.
- 19.2 If the measured value is outside of the tolerance range, replace traction line (from E-box to rear power electronics).
- 19.1 If the measured value is within
the tolerance range, replace E-box.
After replacing the traction line, repeat measurement 12.2.
