Installing Side Member Reinforcement

Information 

• Before final assembly, make sure you fully understand all the work steps involved and carry out a trial assembly without applying adhesive. 
• The bonding process can only be carried out reliably when a smooth and swift sequence of operations is guaranteed. 
• Do not begin bonding work until all materials and tools necessary for later repair work are available. 

1. Position side member reinforcement and check that it fits perfectly.
2. Remove side member reinforcement.

   Information 

   • Apply adhesive evenly over the entire bonding surface. 
3. Apply adhesive on bonding areas -A -  of the body.

   > 5X00IN21 WORKING WITH BODY STRUCTURAL ADHESIVE PAH.071.781.00

   > Application depth 0.5 mm

   Bonding areas

   Information 

   • Apply adhesive evenly over the entire bonding surface. 
4. Apply adhesive to bonding areas -A -  of the cross member reinforcement.

   > 5X00IN21 WORKING WITH BODY STRUCTURAL ADHESIVE PAH.071.781.00

   > Application depth 0.5 mm

   Bonding areas

   1. 4.1  Also apply a bead of adhesive all around the bonding surface.

      > Application depth 3 mm 

5. Secure side member reinforcement.

   Spotwelds

   1. 5.1  Resistance spot-weld the side member reinforcement in areas -A -  using steel.
   2. 5.2  Rivet in side member reinforcement in areas -B -  .

      > BLIND RIVET 999.190.229.01 

6. Secure side member reinforcement.

   Blind rivets

   1. 6.1  Resistance spot-weld the side member reinforcement in areas -A -  .
   2. 6.2  Rivet in side member reinforcement in areas -B -  .

      > BLIND RIVET 999.190.229.01 

   3. 6.3  Rivet in side member reinforcement in area -C -  .

      > RIVET 9A7.008.473.00 

      > 5X00IN23 REPLACING PUNCH RIVETS AND PENETRATED JOINTS

7. Secure side member reinforcement.

   Blind rivets

   1. 7.1  Rivet in side member reinforcement.

      > BLIND RIVET 999.190.229.01 

   2. 7.2  Apply a full steel weld on the side member reinforcement.
