Preparing A-Pillar For Installation

Information 

• Before final assembly, make sure you fully understand all the work steps involved and carry out a trial assembly without applying adhesive. 
• The bonding process can only be carried out reliably when a smooth and swift sequence of operations is guaranteed. 
• Do not begin bonding work until all materials and tools necessary for later repair work are available. 

1. Remove wing rail (section) from A-pillar.

   Information 

   Only make cuts in the top plate. Make sure not to damage the plate underneath when doing this.

   1. 1.1  Mark and make cut.

   2. 1.2  Drill out penetrated joints.

   3. 1.3  Heat bonding areas with > V.A.G 1416 - hot-air blower  and remove wing rail (section) -1-  .

2. Fit in A-pillar.

   Cuts

   1. 2.1  Cut the A-pillar at the transition point to the body leaving an overlap.
   2. 2.2  Fit in A-pillar and secure it to the body.

   3. 2.3  Make cuts through the A-pillar and body in the overlap areas.
3. Remove A-pillar.
4. Cut sheetmetal insert used as a welding backing strip for the weld areas from the old A-pillar.
5. Drill holes for flow-form welding rivets.

6. Prepare A-pillar for bonding.

7. Prepare marked area for flow-form welding and bonding.

8. Prepare connection areas for applying a full aluminium weld.
