Removing Front Side Member

  1. Loosen front side member.
    1. 1.1 Mark and make cuts with dimension -A-  > distance 47 mm  and dimension -B-  > distance 107 mm  .

      Cuts

    2. 1.2 Remove section and keep it for re-installation.
    3. 1.3 Unscrew self-tapping screws.

  2. Unscrew self-tapping screws.

  3. Remove punch rivets using > VAS 852 001 - aluminium body dent removal unit  and > VAS 6790 - compact booster  .

  4. Remove punch rivets.

    1. 4.1 Grind down punch rivets -A-  from the outside. The heads of the punch rivets remain in the component.
    2. 4.2 Drill -B-  out punch rivets and remove completely.
  5. Loosen front side member.

    Joints

    1. 5.1 Loosen friction element welded joint.

      > 5X00IN29 REPLACING FRICTION ELEMENT WELDED JOINT

    2. 5.2 Grind down welded seam -1-
