Removing Dents On Add-On Parts

Dents can be removed from aluminium accessories/add-on parts, such as lids, flaps and doors, by observing the following points.

• The danger of material expansion is higher for aluminium than for steel. Given this, avoid using sharp or hard dent removal tools (e.g. steel hammers) and use plastic, wooden or aluminium hammers instead.
• Reduce the number of direct dent removal procedures, i.e. aluminium panel lying directly between counter-hold tool and dent removal hammer.
• When working on aluminium panels, start dent removal work in the middle of the dent - the opposite applies to steel panels.
• Press out small dents in aluminium panels rather than beating them.
• Handle the countering tool loosely during finishing work. Excessively strong smoothing and finishing can cause the material to expand.
• If the material expands, this can be corrected by applying low heat (max. 150 °C) and pulling in the panel.

If the part cracks during dent removal, the part must be replaced!

Front of vehicle 

• Wing connection panel (upper front side member)

Centre of vehicle 

• Roof
• Side panel (outer A and B-pillar panel)

Rear of vehicle 

• Rear floorpan
• Closing panel
• Side panel
• Corner panel
• Outer wheel arch

Add-on parts 

• Wing
• Front lid
• Doors
• Rear lid
