Adjusting Gap Dimensions Of Rear Lid

Information 

• The adjusting elements must be adjusted so that there is a slight preload when the rear lid is closed completely. 
• The preload must be the same on the left and right. 

1. Remove lower part of rear lock.

   > 558619 REMOVING AND INSTALLING LOWER PART OF REAR LOCK 

2. Adjust the joint between the lid and side panel and rear apron.
   1. 2.1 Loosen screws -1-  and push adjusting elements -2-  down as far as they will go.
   2. 2.2. Adjust the joint between the rear lid and side panel by pushing -Arrows-  the adjusting elements -2-  up or down.

   3. 2.3. Press the lid onto the adjusting element -2-  with your hand by applying slight pressure over the centre (handle area).
   4. 2.4. Check the setting and repeat the adjustment procedure if necessary.
   5. 2.5. Tighten screws -1-  . >Tightening torque 6 (4.5 ftlb.) Nm 
3. Set adjusting elements -1-  at the bottom.
   1. 3.1 Loosen screw on adjusting elements -1-  and press adjusting elements -1-  in completely -arrow-  .

   2. 3.2. Press adjusting elements -1-  approx. 1 cm into the square opening.
   3. 3.3. Close the lid with your hand by applying slight pressure over the centre (handle area) and then open it again.
   4. 3.4. Pull adjusting elements -1-  out again by one notch -arrow-  .

   5. 3.5. Tighten screw on adjusting elements -1-  .
4. Check adjustment at the top and bottom.

   Setting

   1. 4.1 Hold a strip of paper on the sealing surface.
   2. 4.2. Close the rear lid -1-  .
   3. 4.3. To check this, test-drive the vehicle on an uneven stretch of road (bad road surface) during approval.

      Information 

      • It should still be possible to pull the paper strip out when the rear lid is closed. If the paper strip can be pulled out easily or cannot be pulled out at all, correct the preload on the adjusting elements. 
   4. 4.4 Pull strip of paper out of the sealing surfaces.
