Installing Rear CARDAN Shaft

NOTE: Incorrect handling of cardan shaft

Risk of damage to the cardan shaft
Risk of damage to the centre bearing
Humming noises caused by defective centre bearing
→ When one of the two flanges on the cardan shaft has been released, relieve the tension on the centre bearing.

→ Follow the recommended procedures during installation, otherwise the position of the cardan shaft in its original place is no longer guaranteed.

→ Do not kink the cardan shaft (bend by max. 10°); only store and transport it in elongated position.

NOTE: Cardan shaft not fitted correctly

→ Always replace circlips and O-rings.

→ Press circlip on radially.

→ Tap on cardan shaft only at the designated positions using a plastic mandrel.

→ After fitting the cardan shaft, pull on it with your hand to check that it is fitted securely.

The help of another person is required.

Secure the cardan shaft to the Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK).
1. 1.1 Turn the cardan shaft to the applied markings and fit it onto the journal by jerking it.
2. 1.2 Tap on cardan shaft using a plastic mandrel and plastic hammer (max. 1.0 kg) at the designated positions -Arrows- .
  Information
  
  If the rear cardan shaft comes off when you pull it, replace the circlips again.
3. 1.3 Check that the cardan shaft is fitted securely by pulling on it with your hand.

NOTE:
Cardan shaft not fitted correctly
- Cardan shaft loose
- Damage to cardan shaft and transmission
  → Always replace circlips and O-rings.

  → After fitting the cardan shaft, pull on it with your hand to check that it is fitted securely.

4.2 Tap on cardan shaft using a plastic mandrel and plastic hammer (max. 1.0 kg) at the designated positions -Arrows- .
Information

If the rear cardan shaft comes off when you pull it, replace the circlips again.

4.3 Check that the cardan shaft is fitted securely by pulling on it with your hand.

Tighten screws -3- on centre bearing.
> Tightening torque 20 Nm (15 ftlb.)
