Removing Rear CARDAN Shaft
Information
- Do not carry out any repair work on the cardan shaft.
- Set rear cardan shaft with centre bearing holder down facing upwards.
- Mark the position of all parts in relation to each other before removal.
- Re-install at the same position (possible bearing damage and humming noise due to imbalance if not reinstalled at the same position).
- The help of another person is required.
- Mark installation position of the cardan shaft -1-
with a colored pen -2- 1
).

1) The final drives and cardan shafts are paired in the production process, so it is important to maintain the original position.
- Loosen screws -3-
for centre bearing.

Information
The help of another person is required.
- Press cardan shaft off the rear axle differential.
- 3.1 Check that the correct attachments are fitted on the > 9889 - press-off tool
.
- 3.1.1 Use the attachments with the inscription -A- on the rear axle.
- 3.2 > 9889 - Press-off tool-1- must be fitted between the cardan shaft -2- and rear axle differential -3- .
- 3.3 > 9889 - Press-off tool
must be actuated intermittently (press and loosen) at the hexagon -4-
using a torque wrench.
Observe maximum permitted torque of 140 Nm (104 ftlb.).
Only actuate the hexagon anti-clockwise.
- 3.3.1 At the same time, a second person must tap on the flange of the cardan shaft -5- using a plastic or aluminum mandrel.
- 3.4 The cardan shaft remains on the splines of the rear axle differential.

- 3.1 Check that the correct attachments are fitted on the > 9889 - press-off tool

- Unscrew screws -3-
on the centre bearing holder -4-

NOTE: Incorrect handling of cardan shaft- Risk of damage to the cardan shaft
- Risk of damage to the centre bearing
- Humming noises caused by defective centre bearing
→ When one of the two flanges on the cardan shaft has been released, relieve the tension on the centre bearing.
→ Follow the recommended procedures during installation, otherwise the position of the cardan shaft in its original place is no longer guaranteed.
→ Do not kink the cardan shaft (bend by max. 10°); only store and transport it in elongated position.
Information
The help of another person is required.
- Pull the cardan shaft completely off the splines of the rear axle differential.
- 5.1 A second person must secure the cardan shaft to prevent it from kinking.
- Press the cardan shaft off the Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK).
- 6.1 Check that the correct attachments are fitted on the > 9889 - press-off tool
.
- 6.1.1 Vehicles without vibration dampers: Use attachments with the inscription -B- .
- 6.2 > 9889 - Press-off tool-1- must be fitted between the cardan shaft -2- and Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) -3- .
- 6.3 > 9889 - Press-off tool
must be actuated intermittently (press and loosen) at the hexagon -4-
using a torque wrench.
Observe maximum permitted torque of 90 Nm (67 ftlb.).
Only actuate the hexagon anti-clockwise.

- Humming noises caused by defective centre bearing

- 6.4 Pull the cardan shaft completely off the splines of the PDK transmission.

- Remove the cardan shaft in a downward direction and set it down with the centre bearing holder facing upwards.
