Removing Rear Shock Absorber
- Risk of crushing
- Risk of damage to components
→ Wear personal protective gear.
→ Do not raise the wheel suspension higher than the normal vehicle position (vehicle resting on wheels).
Information
Always use an intermediate layer (e.g. hard rubber) when using the jack!
- Support wheel bearing housing using > VAS 6931 - Transmission and Engine Jack .
- Loosen holder for level sensor -2-
from the trailing arm.
Mounting for level sensor holder
- 2.1 Unscrew screw -1- .
- Loosen rear upper control arm -1-
on the wheel bearing housing.

- 4.1 Mark the position of the eccentric screw -1- .
- 4.2 Loosen eccentric threaded joint -1-
.
Information
- Loosen or fit nut on the trailing arm using the specified tools.
- 4.3 Loosen threaded joint -2- .
- Remove shock absorber -1-
on the body.
Mounting for shock absorber on body
- 5.1 Unscrew and remove screws -2- .
- Remove electric plug connection for PASM -1-
on the shock absorber -2-
.

- 6.1 > VAS 6931 - Transmission and Engine Jack must be lowered slowly. Carefully guide the PASM line at the same time.
- 6.2 Release and disconnect electric plug connection for PASM.
WARNING: Improper handling of fluid-carrying lines- Escaping fluid
- System malfunction
- Risk of escaping fluid catching fire
→ Do not kink, crush or twist the line
→ Avoid torsion and shearing
→ Fit the line carefully
- > VAS 6931 - Transmission and Engine Jack must be lowered further. Do not pull brake hose too tightly while doing so. Carefully guide shock absorber out of the wheel housing.
Installing rear shock absorber
Information
Recommendation for workshops replacing shock absorbers/spring dampers:
- Dampers can be replaced separately up to a mileage of 30, 000 km or 3 years.
- If the mileage is > 30, 000 km or the components are more than 3 years old, we recommend replacing them in pairs.
- Place shock absorber in installation position.
- Connect and lock electric plug connection for PASM -1-
on the shock absorber -2-
.

- 3.1 Tighten screws -2- > Tightening torque 50 Nm (36.9 ftlb.)
- Tighten threaded joints in zero position.WARNING: Wheel bearing housing raised incorrectly
- Risk of crushing
- Risk of damage to components
→ Wear personal protective gear.
→ Do not raise the wheel suspension higher than the normal vehicle position (vehicle resting on wheels).
Information
Threaded joints must only be tightened in zero position to prevent warping in the bearings.
- 4.1 Lift the wheel bearing housing as far as required using > VAS 6931 - Transmission and Engine Jack
until the lower trailing arm is horizontal > Zero position
