Checking Engine Oil (Oil Consumption)

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
WARNING: Hot fluid
  • Danger of scalding

→ Let the fluid cool down.

    → Wear personal protective gear.

CAUTION: Incorrect oil level
  • Damage to engine and catalytic converter.

→ Always observe specification for oil fill quantities.

Information

Observe the basic conditions for driving on oil consumption:

Information

Engine oil must not be filled above the "MAX" marking. Too much engine oil can damage the engine and is used up faster due to the dilution effect.

Information

Always make sure that the power supply on the vehicle is not interrupted while working with the Porsche System Tester. A battery charger with a current rating of at least 90 A must be connected to the vehicle battery.

The Porsche System Tester instructions take precedence and in the event of a discrepancy, these are the instructions that must be followed. Deviations may occur with later software versions.

The procedure described here has been structured in general terms; different or additional text may be displayed in the Porsche System Tester.

  1. Perform a visual inspection for oil loss on the engine.
  2. Connect Tester to the vehicle and start it. Switch on ignition.
  3. Read out all fault memories, process and delete existing faults if necessary.
  4. Change the engine oil.

  5. Check engine oil level and fill to MAX.
    1. 5.1 Using the PIWIS Tester  , select the DME  control unit.
    2. 5.2 Select Maintenance/repairs  tab.
    3. 5.3 Using refill quantity under Oil level check  , set the value to 0.0  .
  6. Document the engine oil fill quantity.
  7. Mark oil filler neck and oil drain plug using, for example, a touch-up stick.
  8. Create vehicle analysis log (VAL).
  9. Perform a fuel consumption drive.

    Information

    Fundamentals of oil consumption measurement:

    • Park vehicle on level, horizontal surface.
    • Check tyre pressure.
    • Do not overload the vehicle (maintain Centre of gravity).
    • Observe prescribed oil temperature.
    • Check the engine for oil leaks.
  10. Once the fuel consumption drive has been completed successfully, repeat the refill quantity function and document the reading.
  11. Create vehicle analysis log (VAL).
  12. Compare oil consumption readings with manufacturer specifications
