Installing Lower Chain Housing Cover (V6 Turbo)

Information 

Sealing surfaces must be clean and free of grease.

Do not use mechanical tools!

Information 

Replace a kinked or damaged cylinder-head gasket.

1. Checking cylinder-head gasket for damage.
2. If the cylinder heads are fitted: Modify fitting sleeve.

   Fitting sleeve

   1. 2.1 Pull upper right fitting sleeve out of cylinder block.
   2. 2.2 Bevel fitting sleeve with a file as shown
      1. 2.2.1 Dimension -x-  =6.5 mm
      2. 2.2.2 Dimension -y-  =8 mm
   3. 2.3 Insert fitting sleeve in the cylinder block so the bevelled side is pointing upwards. (Bevelling the fitting sleeve makes it easier to fit the lower control chain cover when the cylinder head is installed.)

   Information 

   • The liquid sealant Loctite 5970-BM must be used. 
   • The bead of sealant you apply must not be thicker than the prescribed thickness. Excess sealant can block the lubrication system. 
   • Sealant must not get into the threaded bores. 
   • The chain housing cover must be installed within 5 minutes of applying the sealant. 
3. Carefully apply a continuous bead of sealant -1-  with a thickness of 3 mm all the way around on the sealing surface of the chain housing cover.

4. Install lower chain housing cover.
   1. 4.1 Positioning lower chain housing cover, but do not press it on yet.

      Checking that the dowel sleeves are fitted correctly.

   2. 4.2 Replacing screws for lower chain housing cover.
      1. 4.2.1 Replace aluminium screws with steel screws.
   3. 4.3 Fitting new screws on lower chain housing cover -1 to 20-  and screwing in uniformly to the anchor block by hand.
   4. 4.4 Tightening screws for lower chain housing cover in the specified tightening sequence.

      Screws for lower chain housing cover -20-  : > Initial tightening 3 Nm (2 ftlb.) 

      Screws for lower chain housing cover -1 to 19-  : > Initial tightening 3 Nm (2 ftlb.) 

      Screws for lower chain housing cover -20-  : > Tightening torque 8 Nm (6 ftlb.) 

      Screws for lower chain housing cover -1 to 19-  : > Final tightening + 90° 

      Screws for lower chain housing cover -20-  : > Final tightening + 90°

5. Fit screw on coolant line holder -2-  and tighten to > Tightening torque 9 Nm (6.5 ftlb.)  .
