Programming Transmission Control Unit

NOTE: Voltage drop 
  • Irreparable damage to control unit 
  • Damage to control unit 
  • Fault entries in the control unit 
  • Control unit programming/coding is aborted 
  • Malfunctions in the control unit, even during programming/coding 

    → Switch off ignition before disconnecting the control unit.

    → Make sure that the power supply is not interrupted during programming/coding.

    → Connect the battery charger with at least > current 90 A  to the vehicle battery.

If the transmission control unit is only programmed (e.g. data update), then no calibration must be performed.

A vehicle analysis log (VAL) must be created before teaching the new transmission control unit.

The PIWIS Tester  instructions take precedence since the description may be different with later Tester releases.

The procedure described here has been structured in general terms. Different text or additional information may appear on the PIWIS Tester. 

  1. Connect the Tester to the vehicle. Switch on ignition.
  2. Select the vehicle type if necessary.
  3. In the overview  , press F7 to switch to the Additional menu  . The message "Create Vehicle Analysis Log (VAL)?" appears. Press F12 to continue.
  4. Create vehicle analysis log according to menu guidance.
  5. Select Read and erase all fault memories  . Press F12 to continue and then press F8 to start.
  6. Go back to the overview.
  7. Select the Transmission electronics (PDK II)  control unit in the overview  . Press F12 to continue. The message "Create Vehicle Analysis Log (VAL)?" appears. Press F11 to continue.
  8. Select Coding/programming. 
  9. Select Automatic programming  . Press F12 to continue.
  10. The Tester displays the message: Programming completed successfully.
  11. Select Automatic coding  . Press F12 to continue.
  12. The Tester displays the message: Coding completed successfully.
  13. Switch ignition off and on again.
  14. Read out fault memory and erase it if necessary.
    1. 14.1 If faults are present, correct the faults according to Guided Fault Finding instructions.
    2. 14.2 If there are no faults present, proceed with the calibration  process.
  15. Select Maintenance/repairs. 
  16. Select menu Calibration of double clutch transmission  . Press F12 to continue.
  17. Select Calibration of transmission after part replacement  . Press F12 to continue.
  18. Observe warnings and test prerequisites displayed on the Tester.
  19. Follow the instructions on the Tester, press F12 to start calibration and perform calibration according to menu guidance.
  20. The Tester displays the message Calibration successful  . Press F12 to continue. Follow the instructions on the Tester.
  21. Read out all fault memories  and delete any fault entries.
  22. Exit the diagnostic application. Switch off ignition. Disconnect the Tester from the vehicle.
  23. Carry out a test drive and then read out the fault memory again.
