Draining Refrigerant R134A

WARNING: Refrigerant
  • Danger of freezing

    → Avoid contact with refrigerant.

    → Wear personal protective gear.

→ Observe the safety regulations for working on air-conditioned vehicles and handling refrigerant.

→ Observe the safety regulations for extraction and filling systems.

→ Observe the instructions for repairing air-conditioning systems and storing spare parts.

NOTIFICATION

Excessively high pressure in refrigerant circuit

→ Do not allow low-pressure gauge to go above 3 bar.

    Service connections for refrigerant

    1. 1.1 Screw off protection caps on the filling valves.
    2. 1.2 Extract any refrigerant remaining in the filling lines.
    3. 1.3 Connect filling adapter -1-  to the high-pressure and low-pressure filling lines.
    4. 1.4 Leave the engine running for a short time with the air conditioning on and open the valves on the filling adapter -1-  .

    Information

Only use recommended air conditioning servicing equipment for R134a (see Workshop Equipment and Special Tools Information)

  2. Remove refrigerant by suction.
    1. 2.1 If the vehicle is cold, it may be necessary to repeat the suction procedure until all refrigerant has been removed from the air-conditioning system. This step is carried out automatically on some air conditioning service equipment.
    2. 2.2 Wait for approx. 2 minutes after the air conditioning service equipment has switched itself off. If the pressure gauge reading rises above 0 bar, repeat the extraction process.
    3. 2.3 The air-conditioning system is completely empty when the pressure displays show a value > 0 bar. The required repairs must now be carried out.
    4. 2.4 Do not leave the open refrigerant system open unnecessarily, but close it off immediately after opening using suitable stoppers.
    5. 2.5 Drain the extracted refrigerant oil into a measuring cup on the servicing equipment and determine the volume.
