Removing Fuel Pump

WARNING: Flammable or explosive materials

Danger of fire or explosion
1. → Disconnect the battery.
2. → Avoid contact with hot parts or sources of ignition.
3. → Use suction to remove ignitable vapours.
4. → Attach warning sign in a clearly visible position.

WARNING: Toxic substances

Danger of poisoning or suffocation
Danger of burns to the eyes and skin
1. → Wear personal protective gear.
2. → Ventilate the work area well.
3. → Never ingest or inhale.
4. → Read specific information on the Hazard Sheet.
5. → Do not smoke, eat or drink in the work area.

Information

Escaping fuel must be soaked up using suitable binding material.
The fuel system must be depressurised be fore starting work on it.
Only work on the fuel system in well-ventilated rooms.
Any seals that were removed must always be replaced.
Never use sealant containing silicone or silicone spray when the injection system is open. Traces of silicone drawn in by the engine are not combusted and damage the oxygen sensors.

Information

Plastic lines must not be kinked or bent as this can make them brittle and start to leak.

Have suitable aids ready for collecting emerging fuel.
Have suitable stoppers ready for closing off the line connections.
Remove stone guard -1- .

Stone guard
1. 3.1 Unscrew screws -2- and remove right holder -3- .
2. 3.2 Unscrew nuts -4- .
3. 3.3 Remove stone guard -1- .
Remove fuel pump -1- .

Fuel pump for auxiliary heater
1. 4.1 Release and disconnect wire harness plug -2- .
2. 4.2 Release and disconnect quick-connecting lock securing fuel line to the fuel tank -3- .
3. 4.3 Loosen spring band clamp -4- using > VAS 6889 - spring band clamp pliers and disconnect fuel line on rear underbody -5- from the fuel pump -1- .
4. 4.4 Release fuel pump -1- from the fuel tank holder -6- and remove fuel pump -1- .
