Removing Turbocharger

WARNING: Hot fluid 
  • Danger of scalding 
  • → Let the fluid cool down.
  • → Wear personal protective gear.

  1. Disconnect pressure hose -1-  from the turbocharger.

    Pressure hose on turbocharger

    1. 1.1  Loosen screw-type clamp on pressure hose -2-  .
    2. 1.2  Pull off pressure hose -1-  and set it aside.
  2. Remove turbocharger support -1-  .

    1. 2.1  Unscrew screws -2-  .
    2. 2.2  Remove turbocharger support -1-  .
  3. Remove oil return line -1-  .

    1. 3.1  Unscrew screws on line connections -2-  .
    2. 3.2  Remove oil return line -1-  .
    3. 3.3  Catch escaping oil and close off line connections using suitable stoppers.
  4. Release and disconnect electric plug connections for recirculating air valve -1-  and electronic adjuster -2-  .

  5. Disconnect coolant return line and oil supply line -1 and 2-  .

    1. 5.1  Unscrew screw securing line connection for coolant return line -3-  .
    2. 5.2  Disconnect coolant return line -1-  .
    3. 5.3  Catch escaping coolant and close off line connections using suitable stoppers.
    4. 5.4  Unscrew screw securing line connection for oil supply line -4-  .
    5. 5.5  Disconnect oil supply line -2-  .
    6. 5.6  Catch escaping oil and close off line connections using suitable stoppers.

    Information 

    You will need a second mechanic to help you with this step.

  6. Loosen turbocharger -1-  .

    Turbocharger

    1. 6.1  Unscrew screws for heat shield on turbocharger -2-  .
    2. 6.2  Remove heat shield for turbocharger -3-  .
    3. 6.3  Unscrew nuts on exhaust flange -4-  .
    4. 6.4  Tilt the turbocharger -1-  away from the engine and get a second mechanic to hold it at this position.

    Information 

    You will need a second mechanic to help you with this step.

  7. Remove turbocharger.

    Turbocharger

    1. 7.1  Disconnect coolant supply line -2-  .
      1. 7.1.1  Unscrew screw on line connection -1-  .
      2. 7.1.2  Pull off coolant supply line -2-  .
      3. 7.1.3  Catch escaping coolant and close off line connections using suitable stoppers.

      7.2  Remove the turbocharger by pulling it up.
