Checking the charge state of the battery
Information
The instructions for working on the vehicle battery and the safety specifications in the document "General information on the vehicle battery" must be observed.
- Refer to 2X00IN General information on the vehicle battery in the appropriate service information.
- Check the battery charge state according to the operating instructions for the relevant rapid-start battery charger. Evaluating the test results and subsequent procedure:

NOTIFICATION
Using charging cables/jump leads directly on the vehicle battery.
- Risk of damage to battery sensor
- → Always connect charging cables/jump leads to the external power supply for jump-lead starting.
Information
- When working or carrying out tests on the vehicle or when the vehicle is in the workshop, a battery charger with a current rating of at least 90 A must be connected.
- As soon as the vehicle is unlocked, e.g. the vehicle is in the workshop or salesroom, it must be trickle-charged using a battery charger.
Information
When using an original standard vehicle electrical system bettery, a charge voltage of 14.4 V or even 14.8 V (setting on the battery charger) can be applied.

- 2.1 First, connect the positive cable from the charger to the positive terminal -1- .
- 2.2 Connect the negative cable from the charger to the ground point for jump-lead starting -2- .
- Read operating instructions for the charger.
- Switch off all loads.
- Switch on the charger.
