Checking Engine Oil Pressure

Information
Engine oil pressure may be too low for a number of reasons:
- Oil dilution
- Faulty oil pump
- Too much bearing clearance
- Oil level too low
- Faulty oil pressure control valve
- Wrong oil used (perform measurement only with oil approved by Porsche)
Information
Test conditions for checking engine oil pressure:
- Correct engine-oil level
- Engine oil temperature approx. 80°C
- Engine oil pressure is variable only after 1, 000 km/621 mls (when mileage is less than 1, 000 km/621 mls, the oil pump always pumps at maximum possible engine oil pressure (optimised running-in behaviour))
- V.A.G 1342 - Oil Pressure Tester
with adapter must be screwed into the bore on the oil-pressure sender and tightened.
- Initial tightening 3 Nm (2 ftlb.)
- Final tightening + 45°
- Screw oil-pressure sender into > V.A.G 1342 - Oil Pressure Tester and push on and lock cable plug on oil-pressure sender.
- Connect electric wire harness for the oil pressure tester.
- Start the engine and check engine oil pressure.
- Engine oil pressure at idle speed: > Overpressure 1.5 bar
- Engine oil pressure at 1, 500 rpm: > Overpressure 1.9 bar
- Release and disconnect cable plug on the oil-pressure sender and unscrew oil-pressure sender from > V.A.G 1342 - Oil Pressure Tester .
- Loosen adapter and remove > V.A.G 1342 - Oil Pressure Tester .
