Checking Engine-Oil Level

NOTIFICATION 

Incorrect oil level 

• Risk of damage to engine or catalytic converter 
  1. → Check the oil level regularly.
  2. → The oil level must not fall below the Minimum marking or rise above the Maximum marking.
  3. → Only use engine oil approved by Porsche.

Information 

Test conditions for checking engine-oil level: 

• Vehicle is parked horizontally 
• Engine at operating temperature 
• The engine must be left running at idle speed for one minute. Then, the engine-oil level must be checked after two minutes with the engine stopped. 

Information 

Generally, the engine-oil level should be checked using the oil level display in the instrument cluster.

If there is no oil level display available, the test must be performed using > T40178B - Oil gauge tester  .

Check using  > T40178B - oil gauge tester  as follows:

1. Remove stopper from guide for oil dipstick using > 3438 - hook  .
2. > T40178B - Oil gauge tester  must be adjusted.

   Adjustment value on oil gauge tester

   1	Oil dipstick
   2	Adjusting ring
   3	Knurled screw
   4	Edge showing adjustment value

   1. 2.1  Loosen the knurled screw -3-  from the oil dipstick -1-  .
   2. 2.2  Position adjusting ring -2-  according to the value shown in the table; the adjustment value must be read off at the end of the adjusting ring -4-  .
   3. 2.3  Fit the knurled screw -3-  on the oil dipstick -1-  .
3. > T40178B - Oil gauge tester  must be pushed as far as it will go (setting ring) into the oil dipstick guide tube.

4. > T40178B - Oil gauge tester  must then be pulled out in order to read off the value on the lower scale. > Oil dipstick scale

5. Insert stopper into the oil dipstick guide.
6. Correct the oil level if necessary.
