Replacing Rear Silencer

CAUTION: Hot components

Risk of burns

→ Let hot components cool down.
→ Wear personal protective gear.

Support rear silencer using > VAS 6931 - engine and gearbox jack and secure with a tension strap.
Unscrew screws on rear silencer holder -1- .

Threaded joint on rear silencer holder
Cut exhaust pipes -1- .
1. 3.1 Cut through exhaust pipes at the centre marking point -Arrows- using > Nr.166 - chain pipe cutters , > Nr.166-1 -ratchet pipe cutters or a similar suitable tool.

Rear muffler connection point
Lower the rear silencer on > VAS 6931 - engine and gearbox jack .
Convert retaining rubbers -1-
1. 5.1 Pull retaining rubbers -1- off the old rear silencer.
2. 5.2 Check retaining rubbers -1- for damage and replace them if necessary.
3. 5.3 Push retaining rubbers -1- on to the new rear silencer.

Rear silencer retaining rubbers
Remove old rear silencer from > VAS 6931 - engine and gearbox jack , position new rear silencer on > VAS 6931 - engine and gearbox jack and secure with a tension strap.
Slide new clamp onto the exhaust pipe on the new rear silencer.
Install rear silencer -1- .
1. 8.1 Move rear silencer -1- into installation position.
2. 8.2 Slide clamp -2- onto exhaust pipes at the vehicle side and align it so that the threaded joint is not lower than the exhaust pipe.
3. 8.3 Screw in and tighten screws on rear silencer holder -3- .
  - Tightening torque 20 Nm (15 ftlb.)
4. 8.4 Tighten screws on clamp -2- .
  - Tightening torque 30 Nm (22 ftlb.)
