Checking The Cooling System For Leaks

WARNING: Hot fluid 
  • Danger of scalding 
    1. → Avoid contact with hot fluid.
    2. → Wear personal protective gear.
  1. Unscrew coolant expansion tank carefully -1-  .

  2. Check engine coolant level and fill to maximum fill level if necessary.
  3. V. A. G 1274B - Cooling system tester  with adapter V. A. G 1274/8 - Adapter for cooling system tester  must be fitted on the coolant reservoir.

    Information 

    • The pressure must not drop. 
    • There must be no drops of coolant. 
  4. Apply test pressure of approx. 1.5 bar and visually check hose connections, connection pieces and cooling system components for leaks.
  5. If the pressure drops, find the leak and correct the problem.
  6. Remove special tool and screw on coolant reservoir cap -1-  securely.
