Installing Oil Pan (Upper Part)

Information
- Check best-before date on the silicone sealant.
- Upper part of oil pan must be installed within 5 minutes of applying the silicone sealant.
- Replace screws that are tightened to an additional torque angle.
- Replace sealing rings, seals and self-locking nuts.
- Remove any residual sealant on the cylinder block using a flat scraper.

- Risk of eye injuries
- → Wear protective goggles.
- Remove residual sealant on upper part of oil pan and on the lower timing chain cover using a rotating plastic brush for example.

- Clean sealing faces to remove any oil and grease.
- Check oil ducts in upper part of oil pan and in the cylinder crankcase for dirt.

at the front marking (nozzle diameter is approx. 2 mm).

Information
- The bead of sealant must not be thicker than the specified thickness because otherwise excess sealant can get into the oil pan and can block the strainer in the oil pump.
- The components must be installed within 5 minutes of applying the sealant.
- Apply silicone sealant to the clean sealing face on the upper part of the oil pan as shown -Arrow-

- 5.1 Sealant bead thickness: 2... 3 mm.

- The bead of sealant must not be thicker than the specified thickness because otherwise excess sealant can get into the oil pan and can block the strainer in the oil pump.
- The components must be installed within 5 minutes of applying the sealant.
- Apply silicone sealant as shown in Fig. -Arrows-
between the cylinder block and lower timing chain cover.

- Upper part of oil pan and crankcase must be flush on the transmission side.
- Fit upper part of oil pan immediately and tighten screws.
- 8.1 Screws 1 to 18 Initial tightening 8 Nm (6 ftlb.)
- 8.2 Screws 1 and 2 Final tightening + 180°
- 8.3 Screws 3 to 13 Final tightening + 45°
- 8.4 Screws 14 to 18 Final tightening + 90°
