Checking Engine Oil Pressure

Information 

Test prerequisites: 

• Vehicle is on a level surface.
• Oil level is OK.

  > 170101 - CHECK ENGINE-OIL LEVEL (R4) 

• Oil temperature > 80°C

1. Remove oil pressure switch -1-  .

   Oil pressure switch

   1. 1.1  Release and disconnect electric plug connection -2-  .
   2. 1.2  Unscrew oil pressure switch -1-  .
      1. 1.2.1  Catch any escaping engine oil.
   3. 1.3  Screw in the V.A.G 1342 - oil pressure tester  instead of the oil pressure switch -1-  .
2. Start the engine and read off the oil pressure.
   • Oil pressure at idle speed:  1.2 to 2.1 bar
   • Oil pressure at 2, 000 rpm:  1.0 to 2.1 bar /3.0 to 4.0 bar possible during the intake phase). 
   • Oil pressure at 3, 700 rpm:  3.0 to 4.0 bar
3. Switch off the engine.
4. Re-install oil pressure switch -1-  .

   Oil pressure switch

   1. 4.1 V.A.G 1342 - Oil pressure tester  must now be removed.
      1. 4.1.1  Catch any escaping engine oil.
   2. 4.2  Replace sealing ring on oil pressure switch.
   3. 4.3  Fit and tighten oil pressure switch -1-  .

      Tightening torque 20 Nm (15 ftlb.) 

   4. 4.4  Connect and lock electric plug connection -2-  .
