Installing Engine

WARNING: Danger of objects or loads falling down 
  • Risk of squashing or crushing 
    1. → Secure components to prevent them from falling down.
WARNING: Highly inflammable or explosive materials 
  • Danger of fire or explosion 
    1. → Avoid contact with hot parts or sources of ignition.
    2. → Use suction to remove ignitable vapours.
    3. → Attach warning sign in a clearly visible position.
    4. → Contain leaked media using non-flammable absorbent material and put it in a container designed for this purpose for disposal in accordance with local requirements.
    5. → Secure collection containers/vessels to prevent them from tipping over.
WARNING: Caustic fluids 
  • Danger of chemical burns 
    1. → Wear personal protective gear.
    2. → Ensure that there is good ventilation.
    3. → Avoid contact with caustic fluid.
    4. → If you do come into contact, wash off immediately with plenty of warm water and contact a doctor if necessary.

  1. Install engine -1-  .

    Bolts

    1. 1.1  Carefully guide the engine -1-  into the vehicle from below on > VAS 6832 - Master Gear unit elevating platform  . Make sure that no lines or other components are trapped or damaged.
    2. 1.2  Align the position of the front-axle carrier and transmission support at the markings made during removal.
    3. 1.3  Fit screws on front-axle carrier and tighten in the sequence -2 to 9-  .
      • Initial tightening 115 Nm (84.8 ftlb.) 
      • Final tightening + 90° 
    4. 1.4  Fit and tighten screws for transmission support -10-  .
      • Tightening torque 70 Nm (52 ftlb.) 
  2. Remove > VAS 6832 - Master Gear unit elevating platform  and > VAS 6832/5 - assembly device - Macan. 
    1. 2.1  Secure the wheel bearing housing until the upper trailing arms are secured to prevent it from tilting sideways.
  3. Secure spring strut forks

    1. 3.1  Turn > 3424 - spreader  by 90° and remove it from the spring strut forks -1-  .
    2. 3.2  Insert screw -3-  and screw on nut -2-  .
    3. 3.3  Tighten nut on spring strut fork -2-  and counter at the screw -3-  at the same time.
      • Final tightening 90 Nm (66 ftlb.) 
      • Final tightening + 90° 
  4. Secure upper trailing arms -1 and 2-  to the wheel bearing housing -5-  .

    1. 4.1  Insert upper trailing arms -1 and 2-  into the wheel bearing housing -5-  .
    2. 4.2  Fit clamping screw on wheel bearing housing -3-  .
    3. 4.3  Screw on and tighten nut -4-  Counter at the clamping screw -3-  at the same time.
      • Tightening torque 45 Nm (33 ftlb.) 
  5. Secure electric wire harness for transmission -1-  .

    1. 5.1  Position electric wire harness for transmission -1-  and clip in clips -4-  .
    2. 5.2  Connect and lock cable plugs -2 and 3-  .
  6. Only if the power-steering gear was removed: 

    Secure universal joint for steering column -1-  on the power-steering gear -2-  .

    1. 6.1  Push universal joint for steering column -1-  onto the power-steering gear -2-  in the opposite direction to -direction of arrow-  .
    2. 6.2  Fit and tighten screw on universal joint for steering column -3-  .
      • Initial tightening 20 Nm (15 ftlb.) 
      • Final tightening + 90° 
  7. Only if the power-steering gear was removed: 

    Push on and lock cable plug for power-steering gear -1-  .

  8. Secure lower coolant hose -1-  to the radiator -2-  .

    1. 8.1  Push on lower coolant hose -1-  .
    2. 8.2  Lock safety clip -3-  .
  9. Secure lines -1 and 2-  to the engine mount bracket.

    1. 9.1  Position ground line -2-  .
    2. 9.2  Screw on and tighten nut -4-  .
      • Tightening torque 20 Nm (15 ftlb.) 
    3. 9.3  Fasten new  tie-wraps -3- 
  10. Install struts -1-  .

    Strut

    1. 10.1  Insert strut -1-  with threaded bolt into the front-axle carrier.
    2. 10.2  Fit and tighten screw on struts -2-  .
      • Tightening torque 3.6 Nm (2.7 ftlb.) 
    3. 10.3  Screw on and tighten nut on strut -3-  .
      • Tightening torque 23 Nm (17 ftlb.) 
  11. Secure electric wire harness in the wheel housing -1-  .

    1. 11.1  Position electric wire harness in wheel housing -1-  .
    2. 11.2  Clip in clips -7-  .
    3. 11.3  Screw on and tighten nut -6-  .
      • Tightening torque 9 - (6.5 ftlb.)  Nm
    4. 11.4  Engage rubber holder -5-  .
    5. 11.5  Push on and lock cable plug for rpm sensor -4-  .
    6. 11.6  Push on and lock cable plug for brake pad wear indicator -3-  .
    7. 11.7  Push on and lock cable plugs for level sensors -1-  .
  12. Fasten new  tie-wraps -1-  .

  13. Position ground line -2-  and insert it in the opposite direction to -direction of arrow-  until the locking lugs -1-  lock.

  14. Secure electric lines on the right longitudinal member.

    1. 14.1  Position ground line -3-  .
    2. 14.2  Screw on and tighten nut -4-  .
      • Tightening torque 9 Nm (6.5 ftlb.) 
    3. 14.3  Position headlight vent line -8-  and clip in clip -7-  .
    4. 14.4  Position ground lines -1 and 6-  .
    5. 14.5  Screw on and tighten nut -2-  .
      • Tightening torque 9 Nm (6.5 ftlb.) 
    6. 14.6  Push on and lock cable plug -5-  and engage it in the holder.
  15. Insert housing cover -2-  on the right longitudinal member. Make sure that the locking lug -1-  locks.

  16. Secure wiring harness -1-  at the left dome.

    1. 16.1  Position wiring harness -1-  .

    2. 18.2  Close line bracket -2-  and clip in clips -3-  .
  19. Secure wiring harness -1-  to the left longitudinal member.

    1. 19.1  Position wiring harness -1-  .
    2. 19.2  Clip in clips on wiring harness -3-  .
    3. 19.3  Engage cable plug -2-  in the holder and connect and lock it.
  20. Secure wiring harness in plenum panel -1-  . +

    2. 20.2  Connect and lock cable plug -4-  .
    3. 20.3  Clip in clips -3-  .

    1. 21.1  Clip in clips on the electric lines.
    2. 21.2  Push on and lock cable plugs -1 to 3-  and engage them in the holder.
  22. Secure wiring harness on right engine mount -1-  .

    2. 22.2  Connect and lock cable plugs -4 and 5-  .
    3. 22.3  Clip in clips -2 and 3-  .
  23. Secure ground lines -1-  next to the fuse box.

    1. 23.1  Clip ground lines -1-  into holder -3-  .
    2. 23.2  Screw on and tighten nut -2-  .
      • Tightening torque 9 Nm (6.5 ftlb.) 
  24. Secure B+ lines -1-  next to the fuse box.

    1. 24.1  Connect B+ lines -1-  to the distributor.
    2. 24.2  Screw on and tighten positive terminal -2-  .
      • Tightening torque 20 Nm (15 ftlb.) 
    3. 24.3  Screw on and tighten nuts -3-  .

      M6: 

      • Tightening torque 7.5 Nm (5.5 ftlb.) 

      M8: 

      • Tightening torque 16 Nm (12 ftlb.) 
  25. Install B+ cover -1-  .

  26. Secure relay carrier -1-  to the fuse box.

    1. 26.1  Push in relay carrier -1-  until the locking lugs -4-  engage securely.
    2. 26.2  Screw on and tighten nut -3-  .
      • Tightening torque 9 Nm (6.5 ftlb.) 
    3. 26.3  Connect and lock cable plug -2-  .
  27. Install fuse box cover -1-  .

    1. 27.1  Fit fuse box cover -1-  .
    2. 27.2  Fit and tighten screws -2- 
      • Tightening torque 3 (2ftlb.) Nm 
  28. Install DME control unit holder -1-  .

    1. 28.1  Engage and position DME control unit holder -1-  .
    2. 28.2  Screw on and tighten nut on DME control unit holder -8-  .
      • Tightening torque 6 Nm (4.5 ftlb.) 
    3. 28.3  Fit and tighten screw on DME control unit holder -7- 
      • Tightening torque 6 Nm (4.5 ftlb.) 
    4. 28.4  Clip in clips on wiring harness
    5. 28.5  Engage cable plug -4-  and clip in clip on electric line -5-  .
    6. 28.6  Clip coolant line -2-  into clips -3-  .
  29. Push on and lock quick connector -2-  for coolant vent line -1-  .

  30. Secure coolant hose -1-  to the radiator -3-  at the top.

    1. 30.1  Connect coolant hose -1-  .
    2. 30.2  Lock safety clip -2-  .

      2. 32.1.2  Fasten spring band clamp -4-  using > VAS 6890 - spring band clamp pliers  .
    2. 32.2  Secure supply line -1-  .
      1. 32.2.1  Push on and lock quick connector -3-  for engine compartment section at the underbody section.
