Installing Front Wheel Bearing Housing

Information 

  1. Position spring strut in the clamped connection in the wheel bearing housing.

    1. 1.1 Push in spring strut with the lowered contact surface as far as it will go -Arrow/line-  .
  2. Fix clamped connection for spring strut/wheel bearing housing at the bottom.

    1. 2.1 Fit screw -3-  .
  3. Position spring strut/wheel bearing housing with the help of another person and secure it to the body (observe markings on removal).

    1. 3.1 Fit and tighten collar nuts -1-  .

      > Tightening torque 33 N.m (24.3 ft lb.) 

  4. Secure lower trailing arm -5-  to the wheel bearing housing.

    1. 4.1 Tighten screw. -2- 

      > Tightening torque 120 N.m (89 ft lb.) 

    Information 

    Following installation, seal the threaded joint securing tie rod to wheel bearing housing with wax as shown in -Illustration-  . Use Pfinder AP14/4 for this (see PIWIS Parts Information - PET).

  5. Tighten hexagon nut securing tie-rod ball to wheel bearing housing -1-  .

    > Tightening torque 85 N.m (63 ft lb.)

    Tie rod to wheel carrier

    1. 5.1 When tightening the hexagon nut, counter at the ball joint threaded bolt -1-  using a special > 9546 - screwdriver  .

    Information 

    Only for GT4/GT4 RS/Spyder: 

    Fit connecting links (suspension/stabiliser) in the central position on the anti-roll bar.

  6. Secure spring strut in clamp on wheel bearing housing.

    1. 6.1 Fit threaded bolt for connecting link -1-  and tighten collar nut -2-  .

      Counter at the hexagon wrench face of the connecting link -Arrow-  when tightening the collar nut.

      > Tightening torque 85 N.m (62.7 ft lb.) 

    2. 6.2 Tighten screw on -3-  lower clamp.

      > Tightening torque 23 N.m (17 ft lb.) 

  7. Install brake discs.

    Screw in and tighten screws -Arrows-  .

    > Tightening torque 10 N.m (7.4 ft lb.)

    Brake disc screws

    Information 

    • Brake calliper screws can always be re-used if no damage can be identified. 
    • Replace damaged bolts. 
    • Observe different tightening specifications! 
  8. Install rear brake calliper with line bracket.
    1. 8.1 Position the brake calliper with the holder, place the brake calliper bolts -Arrows-  and tighten them.

      1. 8.1.1 When re-using the screws:  > Tightening torque 85 N.m (62.7 ft lb.) 
      2. 8.1.2 New screws:  > Initial tightening 30 N.m (22.1 ft lb.)  > Final tightening + 75° 
    2. 8.2 Place bolts -3-  on the wheel bearing housing and tighten.

      > Tightening torque 10 N.m

    3. 8.3 -1-  Connect and lock cable plug for rpm sensor.
    4. 8.4 -2-  Connect and lock cable plug for PASM.
