Installing Cylinder Head - Cylinder Bank 1

  1. Clean sealing surfaces.
    1. 1.1  Remove dowel sleeves from cylinder block.
    2. 1.2  Clean sealing faces on the cylinder head and cylinder block.
    3. 1.3  Insert dowel sleeves into cylinder block.
  2. Install cylinder head.

    Tightening sequence for cylinder head - cylinder bank 1

    1. 2.1  Fit new cylinder-head gasket.
    2. 2.2  Carefully place cylinder head in position. Make sure not to damage the new cylinder-head gasket while doing this.
    3. 2.3  Screw in new cylinder-head screws -1 to 8-  as far as they will go by hand.
    4. 2.4  Screw in screws -9 to 14-  as far as they will go by hand.
    5. 2.5  Tighten cylinder-head screws in the sequence -1 to 8-  .

      > Initial tightening 5 N.m (3.5 ft lb.) 

      > Tightening torque 50 N.m (37 ft lb.) 

      > Loosen all screws 0 N.m (0 ft lb.) 

      > Tightening torque 4 N.m (3 ft lb.) 

      > Subsequent tightening 12 N.m (9 ft lb.) 

      Screws -1 to 4-  : > Torque angle 65 Grad 

      Screws -5 to 8-  : > Torque angle 60 Grad 

      Screws -1 to 4-  : > Torque angle 65 Grad 

      Screws -5 to 8-  : > Final tightening torque angle 60 Grad 

    6. 2.6  Tighten screws in the sequence -9 to 14-  .

      Screw -9-  : > Tightening torque 15 N.m (11 ft lb.) 

      Screws -10 to 14-  :

      > Initial tightening 5 N.m (3.5 ft lb.) 

      > Torque angle 90° 

  3. Secure guide rail -1-  and install tensioning rail -2-  .

    1. 3.1  Position guide and tensioning rails -1 and 2-  .
    2. 3.2  Screw in and tighten bearing pins -3 and 4-  .

      > Tightening torque 10 N.m (7.5 ft lb.) 

  4. Install coolant distributor -1-  .

    Coolant distributor

    1. 4.1  Replace O-rings.
    2. 4.2  Push coolant distributor -1-  onto coolant pipes.
    3. 4.3  Screw in and tighten screws -6-  .

      > Tightening torque 13 N.m (9.5 ft lb.) 

    4. 4.4  Secure coolant hoses -2 and 3-  .
      1. 4.4.1  Fit coolant hoses -2 and 3-  , making sure that the spring clamp -4-  locks correctly.
      2. 4.4.2  Fasten spring band clamp -5-  using > VAS 6890 - spring band clamp pliers  .
  5. Clip vacuum lines -1-  into clips -2-  .

  6. Screw in and tighten screws on coolant regulator housing -1-  .

    > Tightening torque 33 N.m (24 ft lb.)

  7. Secure electric wire harness -1-  .

    1. 7.1  Position electric wire harness -1-  .
    2. 7.2  Connect and lock electric plug connection for high-pressure pump -4-  .
    3. 7.3  Push on and lock electric plug connection for hall sender -3-  .
    4. 7.4  Push on and lock electric plug connection for temperature sensor -2-  .
