Installing Crankcase Half For Cylinders 1 To 3

→ Secure components to prevent them from falling off suddenly.

- The correct assembly position is clearly visible.
Information
- If necessary, > P221 - restraining straps can be used. Only fix two connecting rods in place in this case. Hold the third connecting rod when fitting the crankcase half.
Information
The help of another person is required.
- Replace screws -1-
in crankcase half.
Fit new sealing washers -3- with > 9786 - protective sleeve-2- .

- The sealing faces of the crankcase halves must be completely free of oil, grease and burrs before applying sealant.
- Apply a bead of sealant with a diameter of no more than 1 mm. Always apply sealant to the required area only.
- Join the crankcase halves within max. 5 minutes of applying the bead of sealant.
- Apply Dobotech sealant (Part No. 000.043.207.31) on crankcase half for cylinder bank 2.
- 2.1 Carefully apply a continuous bead of sealant -arrows 1- with a diameter of 1 mm.
- 2.2 Remove residual sealant in the crankshaft flange area following installation -arrows 2- .
Sealant on crankcase half, cylinder bank 2
- Fit and grease new O-ring on sealing face of crankcase half for cylinder bank 2.
- Fit crankcase half of cylinder bank 1 with the help of another person on the crankcase half of cylinder bank 2.
- Screw in through-bolts and tighten in the sequence -1 to 14-
.
> Initial tightening 5 N.m (3.7 ft lb.)
> Initial tightening 15 N.m (11.1 ft lb.)
> Initial tightening 50 N.m (36.9 ft lb.)
> Loosen 360°
> Initial tightening 5 N.m (3.7 ft lb.)
> Tightening torque 15 N.m (11.1 ft lb.)
> Torque angle 75°
> Final tightening 75°

Through-bolt screws on crankcase
- Screw in screws for cross bolt connection and tighten in the sequence -15 to 32-
.
M6: > Tightening torque 13 N.m (9.6 ft lb.)
M8: > Tightening torque 33 N.m (24.3 ft lb.)

- > 9590 - Mounting parts
for securing crankcase half for cylinders 1 - 3 to the engine support must now be screwed in and tightened.
