Assembling Rear Spring Strut

Information 

If the coil spring is replaced: Always replace coil springs in pairs only!

Information 

• When installing new parts, observe the allocation according to the Spare Parts Information. 
• Coil springs are only available in pairs (as a set). 
• The spring-strut mounts for the left and right sides are identical. 
• Replace hexagon nut for securing the piston rod to the spring-strut mount. 

1. Assembly is performed in reverse order to disassembly.

1. 1.1 Clamp the spring strut at a suitable place in the vice (use protective jaws).
2. 1.2 If the vibration damper is to be replaced, move the height-adjusting nut -2-  to the same position as on the old vibration damper (copy the actual dimension -X-  to the new vibration damper).

   Use special tool > 9647 - hook wrench  to do this.

   Tightening torque for lock nut -1-  = 50 N.m (37 ft lb.).

3. 1.3 Fit additional spring, intermediate ring and pre-tensioned coil spring (with the narrower end of the spring) on the vibration damper.
4. 1.4 Place the remaining components on the piston rod and fit at the correct position.

   Use a new lock nut (M14 x 1.5).

5. 1.5 Tighten hexagon nut on the spring-strut mount to > Tightening torque 70 N.m (51.6 ft lb.) + 5 N.m (3.7 ft lb.)  . Counter at the piston rod.
