Removing Rear Wheel Bearing

WARNING: Mechanical, hydraulic or pneumatic press 
  • Risk of squashing 

    → Read specific safety information for the press.

    → Check that the press is working perfectly before use, particularly the safety components.

  1. Unscrew screws -1-  and remove retainer plate -2-  for parking brake shoes at the wheel bearing housing -3-  .

  2. Unscrew screws -1-  and remove wheel bearing with wheel hub -2-  from the wheel bearing housing -3-  .

    1. 2.1 Replace screws  .
  3. Press wheel hub out of the wheel bearing.
    1. 3.1 Fit special tools as shown in the illustration > Pressing wheel hub out of wheel bearing  .

      1  Press tool
      2  Sleeve T10230/3 from > T10230 - Assembly tool 
      3  Pressure piece T10230/8 from > T10230 - assembly tool 
      4  Wheel bearing unit
      5  > VW402 - Pressure plate 
      6  > VW401 - Pressure plate 
    2. 3.2 Press wheel hub out of the wheel bearing.
  4. Press inner bearing ring off the wheel hub.
    1. 4.1 > Nr.112-2 - Separating device  must be inserted between the inner bearing ring -1-  and wheel hub -2-  . Then pre-tension with the spindle.

    2. 4.2 Fit special tools as shown in the illustration > Pressing inner bearing ring off the wheel hub  .

      1  Press tool
      2  Sleeve T10230/3 from > T10230 - assembly tool 
      3  Pressure piece T10230/8 from > T10230 - assembly tool 
      4  > Nr.112-2 - Separating device 
    3. 4.3 Press inner bearing ring off the wheel hub.
