Disassembling Front Spring Strut
Information
Recommendation for workshops replacing shock absorbers/spring dampers:
- Dampers can be replaced separately up to a mileage of 30, 000 km or 3 years.
- If the mileage is > 30, 000 km or the components are more than 3 years old, we recommend replacing them in pairs.
- To prevent damage (deformation), clamp the spring strut in a suitable clamping block (tensioning device for McPherson spring struts).
- 1.1 Alternatively, the spring clamp can also be held in a retaining device.
- Pre-tension the coil spring using > V.A.G 1752/1 - Spring clamp until the piston rod is relieved (not generally required as this depends on the installation pretension on the coil spring). Insert the appropriate forks in the spring compressor.
- Use > 3078 - socket-wrench insert, a/f 22
to loosen the lock nut (securing piston rod to spring strut mount).
Socket-wrench insert, a/f 22
Counter at the piston rod (7-mm hexagon socket) while loosening .
- Remove all parts from the piston rod.
