Remove Front Spring Strut

Information 

• If assembly work was performed or parts were replaced that affect the vehicle height, complete suspension alignment is necessary. 
• Protect electric lines when removing and installing the spring strut on vehicles with PASM. 
• Do not lift/transport the spring strut/vibration damper at the electric line. 
• The ignition must be switched off before disconnecting the plug connection (PASM) for the spring strut. 
• The spring strut and wheel bearing housing are removed from the vehicle together. 
• A helper is needed in order to take out the spring strut/wheel bearing housing. 

1. Remove rear brake calliper with line bracket.

   Get another person to help by holding the brake calliper  .

   1. 1.1 Unlock and disconnect the speed sensor -1-  cable connector.
   2. 1.2 Release and disconnect PASM cable plug -2-  .
   3. 1.3 Unscrew screws -3-  securing holder to wheel bearing housing.
   4. 1.4 Evenly set back brake pads a little using water pump pliers.
   5. 1.5 Unscrew screws -Arrows-  on the brake calliper.

   6. 1.6 Remove the brake calliper with the holder on the wheel bearing housing and hang it in a suitable place in the wheel housing using a cable tie.

      Make sure that the brake pressure line is not strained.

2. Remove brake discs.

   1. 2.1 Unscrew screws -Arrows-  and remove brake disc.
3. Detach connecting link -7/7a-  screw connection at wheel bearing housing.

   Spring strut - GT4/GT4 RS/Spyder 4.0

   1. 3.1 Unscrew collar nut -7-  and pull out connecting link.

      When loosening the hexagon nut, hold the hexagon of the connecting link -7a-  .

4. Loosen collar nut on the tie-rod ball -1-  at the wheel bearing housing and press off ball joint using special > 9560 - press out tool  .

5. Loosen lower trailing arm -5-  from wheel bearing housing.

   1. 5.1 Unscrew screw -2-  on the wheel bearing housing.
6. Unscrew lock nut for tension bolt in the wheel bearing housing.
7. Mark installation position of the spring-strut mount. Loosen lock nuts on the -1-  spring strut mount.

   Secure the wheel bearing housing to prevent it from falling down!

8. Loosen clamped connection between the spring strut and wheel bearing housing.

   1. 8.1 Loosen screw on the clamped connection at -3-  the bottom.
9. Lift spring strut with wheel bearing housing out of the wheel housing.

   Get another person to help. 

10. Pull spring strut out of the wheel bearing housing.

1. 10.1 Unscrew screw on -3-  clamped connection at the bottom.
2. 10.2 Pull spring strut out of the wheel bearing housing.
