Removing Front Wheel Bearing

WARNING: Mechanical, hydraulic or pneumatic press 
  • Risk of squashing 

    → Read specific safety information for the press.

    → Check that the press is working perfectly before use, particularly the safety components.

  1. Remove wheel bearing from wheel bearing housing.
    1. 1.1 Unclip electric line -1-  at the holder -2-  .

    2. 1.2 Remove screw -3-  .
    3. 1.3 Move holder -2-  with brake line aside until the screw underneath is accessible. Do not deform brake line! 
    4. 1.4 Unscrew screws -1 to 4-  and remove wheel bearing with wheel hub from the wheel bearing housing.

    5. 1.5 Replace screws -1 to 4-  .
  2. Unscrew collar nut -1-  for wheel hub -3-  at the tension bolt -2-  .
  3. Press tension bolt -2-  out of the wheel hub -3-  .

  4. Press wheel hub out of the wheel bearing.
    1. 4.1 Fit special tools as shown in the illustration > Pressing wheel hub out of wheel bearing  .

      1  Press tool
      2  Sleeve T10230/3 from > T10230 - Assembly tool 
      3  Pressure piece T10230/8 from > T10230 - assembly tool 
      4  Wheel bearing unit
      5  > VW402 - Pressure plate 
      6  > VW401 - Pressure plate 
    2. 4.2 Press wheel hub out of the wheel bearing.
  5. Press inner bearing ring off the wheel hub.
  1. 5.1 > VAS 251 413 - Separating device  must be inserted between the inner bearing ring -1-  and wheel hub -2-  . Then pre-tension with the spindle.

  2. 5.2 Fit special tools as shown in the illustration > Pressing inner bearing ring off the wheel hub  .

    1  Press tool
    2  Sleeve T10230/3 from > T10230 - assembly tool 
    3  Pressure piece T10230/8 from > T10230 - assembly tool 
    4  > VAS 251 413 - Separating device 
  3. 5.3 Press inner bearing ring off the wheel hub.
