Installing Front Wheel Bearing

Wheel bearing unit

• The wheel bearing has a magnetized multiple seal, which acts as a pulse sender for the wheel speed sensor. 
• The multiple seal -1- must always face upwards when the wheel bearing is set down (this does not apply when pressing the wheel hub into the wheel bearing). Do not damage the multiple seal and do not let it come into contact with magnetic objects (e.g. magnetized screwdriver or magnet). 

1. Press the wheel hub into the wheel bearing.

   1	Press tool
   2	> VW402 - Pressure plate
   3	Wheel hub
   4	Wheel bearing
   5	> VW401 - Pressure plate

   1. 1.1 Fit special tools as shown in the illustration > Pressing wheel hub into wheel bearing  .
   2. 1.2 Press the wheel hub into the wheel bearing.
2. Insert the tension bolt -2-  in the wheel bearing -4-  with the wheel hub -3-  and tighten the new hexagon nut -1-  hand-tight.

   Install the tension bolt

   WARNING: Incorrect handling of safety bolts 

   • Danger of injury 
   • Loss of torque 

     → Always use new screws or nuts following removal.

     → Comply with instructions for repairs.

     → Observe specified tightening torques.

     → Carry out a visual inspection of parts used.

3. Install the wheel bearing in the wheel bearing housing.

1. 3.1 Insert the wheel bearing in the wheel bearing housing.
2. 3.2 Tighten new screws in the sequence shown -1 to 4-  .

   Step 1: > Torque 80 N.m 

   Step 2: > torque angle 120 Degree

3. 3.3 Tighten screw -3-  securing holder -2-  to wheel bearing housing.

   > Tightening torque 10 N.m 

4. 3.4 Clip electric line -1-  onto the holder.
