Installing Front Wheel Bearing Housing
Information
- Protect electric line as required when installing the spring strut on vehicles with PASM.
- Do not lift/transport the spring strut/vibration damper at the electric lines.
- A second mechanic is needed in order to install the spring strut/wheel bearing housing.
- Make sure that the retaining pins do not damage the paint surface when fitting the spring strut mount. (Seal damaged areas with suitable preservative).
- Observe specified tightening torques and torque angle.
- Always replace lock nuts.
Information
Only for GT4/GT4 RS/Spyder:
Fit connecting links (suspension/stabiliser) in the central position on the anti-roll bar.
Position of suspension/stabiliser on anti-roll bar
- Tighten clamped connection between spring strut and wheel bearing housing.
Spring strut to wheel bearing housing
- 1.1 Tighten -3- screw > Tightening torque 23 N.m (17 ft lb.) .
- Guide spring strut/wheel bearing housing into the wheel housing and fit it on the body (observe markings). Get another person to help you with this.
Installation position of spring strut mount
- 2.1 Tighten -1 to 3- collar nuts > Tightening torque 33 N.m (24.3 ft lb.) .
- Fit lower trailing arm -5-
at the wheel carrier.
Mounting for lower trailing arm
- 3.1 Tighten -2- screw > Tightening torque 120 N.m (89 ft lb.) .
- 3.2 Fit level sensor linkage at the holder -1- .
- 3.2.1 Tighten nut and counter at the square part of the ball joint while doing this. > Tightening torque 10 N.m (7.5 ft lb.)
Information
Following installation, seal the threaded joint securing tie rod to wheel bearing housing with wax as shown in -Illustration- . Use Pfinder AP14/4 for this (see PIWIS Parts Information - PET).
Applying wax on marked area (shown on threaded joint securing lower trailing arm)
- Tighten nut -1-
securing tie-rod ball to wheel bearing housing.
> Tightening torque 85 N.m (63 ft lb.)
When tightening the lock nuts, counter at the ball-joint pins using special tool > 9546 - screwdriver (Torx screwdriver).
Securing tie-rod ball to wheel carrier
- Fit connecting link -1-
on the wheel bearing housing.
Spring strut to wheel bearing housing
- 5.1 Insert connecting link -1- and tighten collar nut -2- > Tightening torque 85 N.m (62.7 ft lb.) .
Counter at the hexagon wrench face of the connecting link when tightening the collar nut -Arrow- .
- Prepare for installing the brake disc.
- 6.1 Check that all parts are in perfect condition (visual inspection) and replace them if necessary.
- 6.2 Clean the flat and centering surfaces on the brake disc and wheel hub.
- 6.3 Apply a very thin coat of Optimoly TA (aluminum paste) to the centering surface on the wheel hub.
- Tighten screws -Arrows-
on the brake disc > Tightening torque 5 N.m (3.7 ft lb.)
.

Information
- Brake calliper screws can always be re-used if no damage can be identified.
- Replace damaged bolts.
- Observe different tightening specifications!
- Install front brake calliper with line bracket.
- 8.1 Fit brake calliper together with the holder and fit and tighten new brake calliper screws -Arrows-
.
Brake calliper screws (shown as an example)
- 8.1.1 Re-use screws: > Tightening torque 85 N.m (62.7 ft lb.)
- 8.1.2 New screws: > Initial tightening 30 N.m (22.1 ft lb.) > Final tightening + 75°
- 8.2 Screw in and tighten screws -3-
securing bracket to wheel carrier. > Tightening torque 10 N.m
