Disassembling Convertible Top Frame

Information 

Some of the repair illustrations show only one side of the vehicle. Naturally, some steps also have to be performed on the opposite side of the vehicle as well. These must be carried out as a mirror image of the steps shown.

Installation position of convertible top frame

1. Remove roof frame.
   1. 1.1 Unscrew and remove fastening screws -1-  for filler pieces.

   2. 1.2 Remove filler pieces -1-  by pushing them down in direction of arrow -A-  .

   3. 1.3 Loosen clips -1-  and cut off tie-wrap -2-  .

   4. 1.4 Remove wire harness -3-  .
   5. 1.5 Unscrew and remove fastening screws -1-  on the inner side of the roof frame.

   6. 1.6 Unscrew fastening screws at the rear of the roof frame -1-  and lift the roof frame -2-  up and off.

      Removing front roof frame

   WARNING: Preloaded or pressurized components 

   • Risk of squashing or bruising 

     → Do not reach into the danger area.

     → Relieve tension on components before starting work.

     → Secure components to prevent them from loosening suddenly.

   Information 

   The procedure is identical for both ends of the pneumatic spring.

2. Remove pneumatic spring.

   Removing pneumatic spring

   1. 2.1 Insert a screwdriver -2-  between the head of the pneumatic spring and the safety clip -3-  in direction of arrow -A-  .
   2. 2.2 Loosen safety clip on pneumatic spring by levering the screwdriver -2-  in direction of arrow -B-  . The safety clip remains at the head of the pneumatic spring.
   3. 2.3 Pull pneumatic spring -1-  off the ball joint in direction of arrow -B-  .
   4. 2.4 Remove pneumatic spring.
3. Remove lid support bearing.

   1. 3.1 Mark position of the eccentric adjuster -2-  .
   2. 3.2 Unscrew and remove fastening screw -1-  for bearing and loosen eccentric adjuster.
   3. 3.3 Lift bearing -3-  up and off.
4. Remove microswitch for roof.
   1. 4.1 Release and disconnect electric plug connection -1-  for microswitch.

   2. 4.2 Unclip microswitch for roof -1-  and lift wiring harness up and out.

5. Unscrew and remove fastening screw -1-  and remove bracket for mount -2-  in direction of arrow -A-  .

   1. 6.1 Unclip wire harness -1-  and cut off tie-wrap -2-  .
   2. 6.2 Unscrew fastening screw for wire harness -3-  and remove wire harness.
