Paint & Glass Defect Documentation

Information: Defects and damage to painted surfaces and glass can be difficult to photograph. When trying to photograph body paint and glass to document a defect or damage, the reflections can hide the actual defect.

A best practice to follow for this kind of problem is to use a paper pad with gridlines on it to reflect the flaw. There are different sizes from normal 8.5x11 size paper up to easel size pads.

The paper is placed so that the gridlines are shown in the reflection in the photograph. The defect or damage is highlighted by the deviation in the grid lines and the uniformity of the paper color.

Remember that when a customer has a paint concern that a PQIS job should be completed to document the customer concern. This is possible even without a warranty repair.

PQIS is Porsche's product quality reporting tool. It is the tool that is used for determining issues to fix in vehicle production.
