Calibrating Steering-Angle Sensor
WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
WARNING:
Steering-angle sensor not calibrated or calibrated incorrectly
- Unexpected vehicle handling
- Steering-angle sensor does not function
- Malfunction in steering-angle sensor
→ After working on wheel suspension parts, when replacing the steering-angle sensor, and after changing the wheel alignment values, calibrate the steering-angle sensor using the PIWIS Tester.
→ Keep the front wheels in straight-ahead position on the measuring platform during calibration.
→ For vehicles with electromechanical steering, also re-teach the electric steering lock settings.
NOTE:
Voltage drop
- Irreparable damage to control unit
- Damage to control unit
- Fault entries in the control unit
- Control unit programming/coding is aborted
- Malfunctions in the control unit, even during programming/coding
→ Switch off ignition before disconnecting the control unit.
→ Make sure that the power supply is not interrupted during programming/coding.
→ Connect the battery charger with at least > current 90 A v to the vehicle battery.
Information
- After repairs to or work on the chassis/steering or after replacing the steering-angle sensor/steering column switch, the steering-angle sensor must be recalibrated on a measuring platform.
- Calibration includes initialization.
- To correctly calibrate the steering angle, move the vehicle onto a measuring platform, check wheel alignment values and move the steering exactly to the straight-ahead position.
- Check chassis alignment according to Porsche specifications and make adjustments if necessary.
- Turn wheels and steering wheel to straight-ahead position.
- > VAS 6826 - Steering wheel alignment gauge must be attached.
Location Description Type Basic value Tolerance Steering wheel in straight-ahead position Deviation from horizontal position Torque angle 0° +/-5° - PIWIS Tester must be connected to the vehicle before starting it. Switch on ignition.
