Calibrating Steering-Angle Sensor

WARNING: Steering-angle sensor not calibrated or calibrated incorrectly 
  • Unexpected vehicle handling 
  • Steering-angle sensor does not function 
  • Malfunction in steering-angle sensor 

    → After working on wheel suspension parts, when replacing the steering-angle sensor, and after changing the wheel alignment values, calibrate the steering-angle sensor using the PIWIS Tester. 

    → Keep the front wheels in straight-ahead position on the measuring platform during calibration.

    → For vehicles with electromechanical steering, also re-teach the electric steering lock settings.

NOTE: Voltage drop 
  • Irreparable damage to control unit 
  • Damage to control unit 
  • Fault entries in the control unit 
  • Control unit programming/coding is aborted 
  • Malfunctions in the control unit, even during programming/coding 

    → Switch off ignition before disconnecting the control unit.

    → Make sure that the power supply is not interrupted during programming/coding.

    → Connect the battery charger with at least > current 90 A  v to the vehicle battery.

Information 

  1. Check chassis alignment according to Porsche specifications and make adjustments if necessary.

  2. Turn wheels and steering wheel to straight-ahead position.
  3. > VAS 6826 - Steering wheel alignment gauge must be attached.

  4. PIWIS Tester  must be connected to the vehicle before starting it. Switch on ignition.
  5. Select the vehicle type if required.
  6. Select the Steering wheel electronics  control unit in the overview  . Press F12 to continue. The message "Create Vehicle

    Analysis Log (VAL)?" appears. Press F11 to continue.

  7. Maintenance/repairs  must now be selected.
  8. Steering-angle sensor calibration  must be selected. Press F12 to continue.
  9. Read and follow instructions and information. Press F12 to continue and then press F8 to start.
  10. Perform calibration according to menu guidance.
  11. Read out the fault memory  . Clear it if necessary
  12. Exit the diagnostic application. Switch off ignition. PIWIS Tester  must now be disconnected from the vehicle.
  13. Perform a test drive.
