Installing Heat Shield On Catalytic Converter

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
NOTE: Components not fitted when engine is running or during test drive 
  • Risk of damage to components due to reduced cooling performance 

    → Before starting the engine, make sure that all air-supply components are completely fitted.

    → Only start the engine when the heat shields and design cover are fitted.

    → Only test-drive the vehicle when all underbody panelling, heat shields and the design cover are fitted.

NOTE: Heat shields not fitted correctly 
  • Risk of damage to components due to over-heating 

    → Check that the heat shields are screwed on fully.

    → Check that the heat shields overlap fully and without gaps.

    → Do not put pressure (body weight, tools) on heat shields.

    → Store removed components in a safe place.

    → Replace damaged or deformed heat shields and safety clips.

Information 

When installing the bottom half, be careful of the seal for the exhaust system holder.

Do not damage the insulation on the bottom half when inserting it into the exhaust system holder.

Check insulation for damage before re-installation. Always replace if damaged.

Always replace damaged insulation.

  1. Install heat shield on catalytic converter -1-  .
    1. 1.1 Guide heat shield -1-  into the exhaust system holder -4-  and move it into installation position. Check that it is fitted correctly between the bottom half of the heat shield -1-  and exhaust system holder -4-  .
    2. 1.2 Clip clips -3-  onto the exhaust system holder -4-  .
    3. 1.3 Fit and tighten screws -2 and 6-  .

      Screw -2-  : > Tightening torque 8 Nm (5.9 ftlb.) 

      Screw -6-  : > Tightening torque 20 Nm (14.8 ftlb.)

      Heat shield on catalytic converter (shown without upper parts)

  2. Install upper centre catalytic converter heat shield -1-  .
    1. 2.1 Guide in upper centre catalytic converter heat shield -1-  and push it under the clips -4-  .
    2. 2.2 Align seals -6-  and check that they are fitted correctly.
    3. 2.3 Fit retainer cover -5-  on upper centre catalytic converter heat shield -1-  .
      1. 2.3.1 Check that the seal -6-  between upper centre catalytic converter heat shield -1-  and retainer cover -5-  is fitted correctly.
    4. 2.4 Fit and tighten nuts -3-  .

      > Tightening torque 9 Nm (6.5 ftlb.)
