Removing Driver'S Airbag Unit
- Triggering of airbag unit.
- System faults can occur.
→ Remove ignition key or remote control (hand-held transmitter) and keep it outside of the transmission range.
→ External power supply must be de-energized.
→ Disconnect the battery and isolate the ground strap so that all contact with a ground carrier is avoided.
→ Wait 1 minute after disconnecting the battery.
→ Only pull off connector on the triggering unit after the waiting time has elapsed.
→ Keep space in front of the airbag unit free.
→ Replace damaged parts.
→ Always set airbag units down with the blow-out opening facing upwards.
→ Do not place any objects on the airbag units.
→ Store airbag units in a safe place.
→ Avoid contact with grease, oil, detergents, liquids or similar substances.
→ Store airbag units in a cool place. Maximum temperature: 90°C.
Information
Guide unlocking tools into openings -L and R- on the steering wheel at the same time and release retainer spring -H- .
Use commercially available tools (e.g. screwdrivers) as unlocking tools.
Driver's airbag unit
If the driver's airbag unit -1- cannot be released, press the driver's airbag unit -1- several times using a jerking movement and let it go, then repeat the unlocking procedure.

Dispose of replaced and non-ignited airbag and seat-belt pretensioner units in accordance with local legal requirements and transport regulations.

Loosening driver's airbag unit
- 1.1 Release driver's airbag unit -1- through the opening -2- at the left and right.
- 1.2 Guide driver's airbag unit -1- out of the steering wheel until the electric plug connections are accessible.
- Disconnect electric plug connections -2 and 3- and remove driver's airbag unit -1- .
