Replacing Era GLONASS Emergency Call System Battery

NOTE: Voltage drop 
  • Risk of irreparable damage to control unit 
  • Risk of damage to control unit 
  • Fault entries in the control unit 
  • Coding in the control unit is aborted 
  • Malfunctions in control unit, even during programming 

    → Prior to disconnecting the control unit, switch off ignition and remove ignition key.

    → Ensure that the power supply is not interrupted during programming.

    → Connect a battery charger with a current rating of at least 90 A to the vehicle battery.

Information 

The PIWIS Tester  instructions take precedence since the description may be different with later Tester releases.

The procedure described here has been structured in general terms. Different text or additional information may appear on the PIWIS Tester  .

  1. Unscrew screws from control unit cover and remove cover.

    Emergency call system control unit

  2. Disconnect battery and replace it with a new battery. Make sure that the electric plug connection on the new battery is locked correctly.
  3. Secure cover on control unit with screws.
  4. Install ERA GLONASS emergency call system

    > WM, 919619 REMOVING AND INSTALLING ERA GLONASS EMERGENCY CALL SYSTEM CONTROL UNIT 

  5. Connect the Tester to the service disconnector using > 9818/ET 500 - Y-connector, Russia  and start it. Switch on ignition.
  6. Remove dashboard cover at the left. Connect the red cable to the emergency call system (ERA GLONASS) socket.

  7. Connect the black cable to the service disconnector socket in the vehicle.
  8. Select the vehicle type if required.
  9. Select Emergency call system (ERA GLONASS)  in the overview. Press F12 to continue.
  10. Maintenance/repairs  must now be selected. Press F12 to continue.
  11. Replace battery  must be selected. Press F12 to continue and then press F8 to start.
  12. Follow the instructions on the Tester.
  13. A message appears reporting that the battery was replaced successfully.
  14. Exit the diagnostic application. Disconnect the Tester from the vehicle.
  15. Leave the ignition switched on until the SOS button (centre console) changes from flashing green to permanent green.
  16. This can take up to 2 minutes.
  17. IMPORTANT: Only now is the ERA GLONASS emergency call system active.
