Replacing Control Unit For Lane Change Assist

NOTE: Voltage drop 
  • Irreparable damage to control unit 
  • Damage to control unit 
  • Fault entries in the control unit 
  • Control unit programming/coding is aborted 
  • Malfunctions in the control unit, even during programming 

    → Switch off ignition before disconnecting the control unit.

    → Make sure that the power supply is not interrupted during programming/coding.

    → Connect the battery charger with at least > current 90 A  to the vehicle battery.

Information 

The PIWIS Tester  instructions take precedence since the description may be different with later Tester releases.

The procedure described here has been structured in general terms. Different text or additional information may appear on the PIWIS Tester  .

Information 

Lane Change Assist must be re-calibrated after carrying out the following work on the vehicle:

  1. Replace Lane Change Assist control unit.

    > WM, 917019 REMOVING AND INSTALLING LANE CHANGE ASSIST CONTROL UNIT 

  2. Connect the Tester to the vehicle and start it. Switch on ignition.
  3. Select the vehicle type if required.
  4. In the overview  , start the Additional menu  by pressing F7. The message "Create Vehicle Analysis Log (VAL)?" appears. Press F11 to continue.
  5. Select the Component protection start-up  function in the Additional menu  . Follow instructions and procedure.
  6. Enter the PPN user name and password. 
  7. Check the chassis number. Enter the order number. Press F12 to continue.
  8. Allow the Tester to run the procedure.
  9. The Tester reports that component protection has been taught  . Press F12 to continue.
  10. Go back to the overview  . Select the Lane Change Assist  function. Press F12 to continue.
  11. Coding/programming  must be selected.
  12. Automatic coding  must now be selected. Press F12 to continue.
  13. The message "Coding was completed successfully" appears. Press F12 to continue.
  14. Read out the fault memory  and erase it if necessary.
  15. Exit the diagnostic application. Switch off ignition. Disconnect the Tester from the vehicle.
