Replacing Central Computer

NOTE: Voltage drop 
  • Irreparable damage to control unit 
  • Damage to control unit 
  • Fault entries in the control unit 
  • Control unit programming/coding is aborted 
  • Malfunctions in the control unit, even during programming/coding 

    → Switch off ignition before disconnecting the control unit.

    → Make sure that the power supply is not interrupted during programming/coding.

    → Connect the battery charger with at least > current 90 A  to the vehicle battery.

Information 

China and Korea:  If a central computer is replaced, the navigation database must be re-installed.

Information 

If a central computer is replaced, the data stored in the vehicle will be lost. Always inform the customer that the logbook data must be saved beforehand and backed up on an external data storage medium.

  1. Replace central computer.

    > 915219 REMOVING AND INSTALLING CENTRAL COMPUTER 

  2. Connect the Tester to the vehicle and start it. Switch on ignition.
  3. Select the vehicle type if required.
  4. In the overview  , start the Additional menu  by pressing F7. The message "Create Vehicle Analysis Log (VAL)?" appears. Press F11 to continue.
  5. Select the Component protection start-up  function in the Additional menu  . Follow instructions and procedure.
  6. Enter the PPN user name and password. 
  7. Allow the Tester to run the procedure.
  8. Check the chassis number. Enter the order number. Press F12 to continue.
  9. PCM  must be selected. Press F12 to continue.
  10. Allow the Tester to run the procedure.
  11. The Tester reports that component protection has been taught  . Press F12 to continue.
  12. Go back to the overview  . Select the PCM  function. Press F12 to continue.
  13. Codings/adaptations  must now be selected.
  14. Automatic coding  must now be selected. Press F12 to continue.
  15. The message "Coding was completed successfully" appears. Press F12 to continue.
  16. Go back to the overview  . Start the Additional menu  by pressing F7.
  17. Function enable  must be selected. Press F12 to continue.
  18. Enter the PPN user name and password  . Press F12 to continue.
  19. Display enabled functions  must be selected. Press F12 to continue.
  20. The enabled functions are displayed. Follow the instruction on the Tester: Carry out restore process  and press F8.
  21. Restore enabled functions  must be selected. Press F12 to continue.
  22. Follow the instructions on the Tester. Press F12 to continue.
  23. The Tester displays the message: Restore successful  . Press F12 to continue.
  24. Exit the diagnostic application. Disconnect the Tester from the vehicle.
  25. After a successful recovery, perform function test on the PCM.
  26. Switch off the ignition.
  27. If the vehicle has the Porsche Connect option, this must re-initialised.

    First initialisation of Porsche Connect Online Services 

    To use the online services contained in the Connect Plus option, the services list must be loaded once and a licence check must be carried out. The PCM system must then be restarted in order to ensure that the ordered services are visible for the customer.

  28. Unlock the vehicle.
  29. Switch on the ignition.
  30. Establish data connection (connectivity).

    The data connection can be established either using a SIM card (variant A) (see Step 31 onwards) or using an external WiFi hotspot (variant B) (see Step  32 onwards).

  31. (A) Establish data connection using a SIM card 
    1. 31.1 Insert SIM card A (bevelled edge is at the front left and chip is facing downwards).
    2. 31.2 Press PHONE  button.
    3. 31.3 Enter the SIM card PIN if necessary and press OK to confirm.
    4. 31.4 Select Enable  to enable the data connection.

      Once the data connection is established, the icon appears in the Connection Manager in the footer of the PCM display. The services list is loaded automatically in the background. The licences must then be checked and the PCM must be restarted.

  32. (B) Establish data connection using an external WiFi hotspot 

    There is no SIM card in the SIM card reader.

    1. 32.1 Select PHONE > OPT > SET PHONE > WiFi settings. 
    2. 32.2 Activate WiFi function if necessary by selecting Activate WiFi.
    3. 32.3 Activate Use external data connection  .
    4. 32.4 Select Connect to external WiFi hotspot. 
    5. 32.5 Search for a WiFi hotspot (e.g. hotspot in the Porsche Centre or personal hotspot on your mobile phone) and enter WiFi access data in PCM. Please note that the data you enter here is case-sensitive. The connection to the external WiFi hotspot is established.

      Once the data connection is established, the icon appears in the Connection Manager in the footer of the PCM display. The services list is loaded automatically in the background. The licences must then be checked and the PCM must be restarted.

  33. Check availability of the licences 
    1. 33.1 Press HOME > select Apps menu  > press OPT.
    2. 33.2 Select Services information  .

      The contract period for the respective service is displayed.

  34. Restart PCM 

    In order to use the services, PCM must be restarted. To do this, carry out the following steps.

    1. 34.1 Remove SIM card (if inserted) from the card reader. To do this, press on the inserted card and remove it.
    2. 34.2 Stop route guidance (if activated).
    3. 34.3 Close the doors and lids if necessary and lock the vehicle. Wait for at least 5 minutes  .
    4. 34.4 Unlock the vehicle and switch on ignition.
    5. 34.5 PCM restarts completely (starting logo with model logo is displayed in the PCM display). If this is not the case, you did not wait long enough and the services are not yet available. Lock the vehicle again and wait for the required length of time.
    6. 34.6 Establish data connection via SIM card or WiFi.
    7. 34.7 Check availability of the services in the NAV  menu (Web Search) and in the MAP  menu > Side menu  (Traffic flow, Google Earth®).
