Removing Front Wheel Bearing

Wheel bearing unit

• The wheel bearing has a magnetized multipole seal, which acts as a pulse sender for the wheel speed sensor. 
• The multipole seal -1- must - always face upwards when the wheel bearing is set down (this does not apply when pressing the wheel hub into the wheel bearing). 
• The multipole seal must not be damaged and must not come into contact with magnetic objects (for example, magnetized screwdriver, magnet). 

1. Remove wheel bearing unit -1-  .

   Wheel bearing unit

   1. 1.1 Unscrew screws on wheel bearing unit -2-  .
   2. 1.2 Remove wheel bearing unit -1-  from wheel bearing housing.
2. Press wheel hub out of the wheel bearing.

   Removing wheel hub from wheel bearing

   1	Press tool
   2	Sleeve T10230/3 from > T10230 - assembly tool
   3	Thrust piece T10230/8 from > T10230 - assembly tool
   4	Wheel bearing unit
   5	> VW402 - Thrust plate
   6	> VW401 - Thrust plate

   1. 2.1 Fit special tools -1 to 3-  and -5 and 6-  as shown in > Removing wheel hub from wheel bearing  on wheel bearing unit -4-  .
   2. 2.2 Press wheel hub out of the wheel bearing.
3. Press inner bearing ring -1-  off the wheel hub -2-  .
   1. 3.1 Insert > VAS 251 413 - splitter  between the inner bearing ring -1-  and wheel hub -2-  and pre-tension with the spindle.

   2. 3.2 Fit special tools -1 to 4-  as shown in > Removing inner bearing ring from wheel hub  and press inner bearing ring off the wheel hub.
