Removing Additional Air Conditioner

WARNING: Refrigerant 
  • Danger of freezing 
    1. Avoid contact with refrigerant.
    2. Wear personal protective gear.
    3. Observe the safety regulations for working on air-conditioned vehicles and handling refrigerant.
    4. Observe the safety regulations for extraction and filling systems.
    5. Observe the instructions for repairing air-conditioning systems and storing spare parts.
WARNING: Hot fluid 
  • Danger of scalding 
    1. Let the fluid cool down.
    2. Wear personal protective gear.

Information 

The refrigerant connections must be closed off immediately using suitable stoppers once the refrigerant lines have been removed.

Information 

Before re-installing the component, check the O-rings of the refrigerant lines for damage and replace them if necessary.

Wet the O-rings of the refrigerant lines with refrigerant oil.

Close off all refrigerant lines and connections using suitable stoppers during removal.

Do not open the stoppers for the lines and connections until shortly before installation.

  1. Have suitable stoppers ready for closing off the line connections.
  2. Remove rear underbody cover at the centre -3-  .

    1. 2.1  Unscrew nut -2-  .
    2. 2.2  Remove expansion rivets -1-  .
    3. 2.3  Unscrew screws -4-  .
    4. 2.4  Remove rear underbody cover at the centre -3-  .
  3. Remove heat shield on rear cardan shaft -1-  .

    1. 3.1  Unscrew nuts -2-  .
    2. 3.2  Remove heat shield on rear cardan shaft -1-  .
  4. Remove heat protection for side of tunnel at the front -1-  .

    1. 4.1  Unscrew nuts -2-  .
    2. 4.2  Remove heat protection for side of tunnel at the front -1-  .
  5. Remove heat protection for side of tunnel at the rear -1-  .

    1. 5.1  Unscrew nuts -2-  .
    2. 5.2  Remove heat protection for side of tunnel at the rear -1-  .
  6. Disconnect coolant hoses on additional air conditioner -1-  .

    1. 6.1  Clamp off coolant hoses on additional air conditioner -1-  using ≥ 3094 - hose clamps  .
    2. 6.2  Unscrew nuts -2-  .
    3. 6.3  Loosen spring band clamp -3-  using ≥ VAS 6891 - spring band clamp pliers  and pull off coolant hoses -1 -  .
    4. 6.4  Catch escaping coolant and close off line connections using suitable stoppers.
  7. Loosen heat protection on tunnel -1-  .

    1. 7.1  Loosen clamping washers -2-  and pull off holder -3-  .
    2. 7.2  Loosen heat protection on tunnel -1-  as far as required until refrigerant line connections on the additional air conditioner are accessible.
  8. Disconnect refrigerant lines on additional air conditioner -1 and 2-  .

    1. 8.1  Release holder -3-  and open it
    2. 8.2  Unscrew nuts on holder -4-  .
    3. 8.3  Unscrew nut on holder for refrigerant lines on additional air conditioner -5-  .
    4. 8.4  Carefully pry off holder for refrigerant lines on additional air conditioner -6-  and loosen the bonding.
    5. 8.5  Remove holder for refrigerant lines on additional air conditioner -6-  .
    6. 8.6  Pull off refrigerant lines on additional air conditioner -1 and 2-  .
    7. 8.7  Catch escaping refrigerant and close off line connections using suitable stoppers.
  9. Release and disconnect electric plug connections -2-  for rear temperature sensors -1-  .

  10. Remove insulating mat -1-  .

  11. Disconnect electric line for additional air conditioner at the right.
    1. 11.1  Release and disconnect electric plug connection -1-  .
    2. 11.2  Unclip clips -2-  .

  12. Remove additional air conditioner -1-  .

    1. 12.1  Lift additional air conditioner -1-  out of the fastening elements -arrow A-  and guide it out -arrow B-  .
